86 GXL @ 90 GTU, what should I get off of them for the FB?
Both cars are available to me, and I wonder what engine or other parts I can remove to benefit my 81 FB.
96 has ~200k, 90 has 100K miles respectively. I noticed the igniters etc are all in good shape. Can you upgrade the entire ignition system and do away with the dizzy? Need input, thanks! |
yes you can install direct ignition there is lots of talk on this go to the FAQ page also i would take the rear spoiler off of the gtu if you dont want it i will buy it from you just name your price for hassle and all good finds. also how about the brakes calipers you can use them up front if you swap spindles would be cool but not done often i think.

You could actually take the engine from the 90 and transplant it into the 81. The 90 engine makes 160hp and the 86 engine makes something like 145hp, while the 81 engine makes 101hp. If you ask me, well worth the effort. They are supposedly easy to get more power from too, but I don't know for sure.

Pull everything from the engine bay of the 90, including the tranny. Depending on your mechanical ability, you might wanna grab all the suspension too. You can do a 5lug swap w/ R&P steering yourself, but there's a lot of custom fabrication required, mostly the front wheels and the steering. I'd say the seats too, maybe the shift boot or knob, dunno what else. But DEFINITELY grab the engine and ecu, intake, DEI chamber, fuel rail, etc. That stuff is very worthwhile!

I did notice the GXL calipers are 4 piston from the looks of them... they looked a lot like FD calipers, while the later car (90) had 2 piston calipers. So i would just need to swap spindles? What if i want to retain the 4x100 pattern for the Weds auto bahns i have? Can i just get 4x100 pcd with the correct diameter spindle rotors? Excellent information guys. |

Only detail is the 12A i have now runs so well... |
