'85 GSL 12a shutter valve problem

Hi guys,

I have a bit of a problem with my engine. I have an '85 GSL 12a stock which has a 4 speed auto with a shift kit. Here is the problem:

When I crank my car, the engine runs great with the choke on, idles perfectly and so on. When it comes off of the choke and the transmission is in "P" or "N" it idles roughly between 400 and 900 rpm's, when I have it in "R,D,2,1" it idles great.
The mechanic at the mazda place pulled the vacuum line off of the yellow solenoid for the shutter valve and plugged it with a screw. When I hooked the vacuum line back up the engine, the engine stalls out and runs like crap. But when the vacuume line is unplugged it runs good with the exception of the rough idle in "P" and "N." I am at my whits end with trying to figure out what is wrong. I replaced the Control Unit behind the drivers side cargo bin and nothing works. Any advice from you guys that can help me out on this?

Would converting the fuel system from Carb to EFI like this:.....

throttlebody...

TII injectors
ntake manifold

and i'd use a megasquirt ecu...

--thanks to (Elysian)

.......do anygood?

Has anyone experienced this problem before and could help me out. I just hate going up to a stop light and brumm.... brummm.... brumm... you get the point. Sounds like a bad tune-up. I have replaced the spark plug wires and the wires to the ignition box, replaced the spark plugs with NGK plugs, replaced the fuel filter and pump, and I replaced the shutter valve itself. Just about everything except the carb.

Please Help.

Check your anti-afterburn hose (I think that is the name of it). I don't have a picture on file but you can go to the Mazdatrix site and they have some info. to help you out. The basic location is right behind the exhuast manifold and tends to degrade due to this. When a hole burned through mine, the idle would go up and down and sounded like a galloping horse. It took me a few weeks to figure it out, but I replaced that and the shutter valve and I was back in business.

The Hoses are looking good, no breakage or anything.

you could replace the shudder valve or the solenoid

just remove the rats nest and all the crap of vacuum lines everywhere!!!!
Screw the ozone layer we wont be around to feel the effects of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though I am not to familiar with the setup of an automatic RX7.......Does the tranny shift by mechanical or vacuum based reactions or whatever its called????????
If its not using a vacuum and a solenoid then why not pull out all the vacuum crap that slows it down and gives more problems????????
I have always pulled all that crap out.......onmy cars and friends.......
