85 GS Restoration Stage 5 PICS PICS PICS!

Hey Guys,

I thought I'd post some recent pics of the 85 GS Restification project just to see what everyone thought of it. I got some pretty cool pictures of it when I was out driving around today so most of these are just for artistic purposes. There is a good engine shot included though. Let me know what you guys think! I also have wallpaper sized photos, if anyone wants me to upload them just ask. :D

Here's the picture of my freshly painted engine bay. I think it is finally getting close to where I want it. Its not spotless but it looks pretty good.

Here is one from a graveyard out in the country.

A cool one in front of the "Abington General Store."

Last one. The clouds in the back were really cool but the sun didn't work too well when I was trying to take the picture....

Is she ready for paint?

What color are you going with?

Glazedham42 06-02-04 06:38 AM

for now I'm just gonna leave it as primer because you do'nt have to worry about scratching anything and I've got a good amount of mechanical work to do still, so it comes in handy. Eventually I"m going to paint it white, but for right now its going to stay primered gray.

Doesn't primer absorb water? Or have I been misinformed?

your engine bay looks so nice. Mines coming together slowly.

It may. I'm not sure. I don't ever drive my car in the rain anyway, so I'm not really concerned with that... :D If my car was a daily driver I would definitely be painting it though. It's just a secondary project car...

For those of you that might want wallpaper sized images for some reason I have uploaded them to the link at the bottom of the page... Here are some pics of the car when I got it just for fun so you can see the progress. The engine bay pretty much looks like crap. I didnt' realize that I"ve come that far.

Cool artistic shots
where in IN were those taken?

Glazedham42 06-02-04 11:28 AM

I'm in Wayne county, we're about an hour due east of Indy. Lots of cool stuff out here to take pics of in the country. Indiana is really a pretty diverse place, even though people say its just cornfields everywhere....

Looks nice, but you're going to be re-primering it before you paint it. Primer absorbs every single small amount of moisture in the air (it's supposed to absorb paint) so if you go painting it now, it'll turn out terrible.

Did you completely de-loom the engine bay? It's a little hard to tell from those pics. I'm in the process of delooming an '81 GS so if you had any advice it'd be much appreciated?

RXTbone 06-02-04 02:35 PM

I'll second the primer/moisture point - you almost have to paint. Even if you're not driving it in wet weather, primer will pull moisture out of the air. If you have taken the car down to metal underneath, it will begin to rust fairly quick...

The car itself looks great - looks like you've done some nice work...
