84 rx7 12a ignitor

I need to know if the ignitor on a 84 rx7 12a is the coil or ignition module. Thanks Rob

The ignitors are bolted onto the dizzy. If you don't have point type ignition, I believe they are interchangeable. I don't remember if the got rid of points for 80 or 81.

'80's had electronic ignition, however the ignitor is not the same. They switched to the J109 ignitors I believe in '81, and used them for the rest of the 1st gen run. You would be better off finding one of those ignitors especially since they are much more common. I will gladly take an '80 ignitor off your hands if you have one! Good luck.

Unscrew the ignitors from the sides of the distributor, disconnect the electrical leads from them and inspect the contacts where these leads attach. Quite often they are dirty and corroded, and can be cleaned with sandpaper and reinstalled. Complete operation takes less than 1/2 hour.

it will work except its larger than the 81-85; therefore, its not a direct bolt in to the dissy.
