84 Rx-7

A couple of years ago I came across a 84 Rx-7 with fuel injection and a 12B engine and some other modifications. I have been told that it is a prototype, basicly it is a 1st gen body with a 2nd gen engine. It was to much not to pass up, so I bought it... is there anyone who knows if this is really a prototype? or is it a fraud?
Any info would be greatly appreaciated

I've never heard of a prototype rx7, but i can't answer that one. A 2nd gen. engine is a 13b

twinkletoes 07-06-06 04:42 PM

How much did you pay and can you get pics?

Naegleria_Fowleri 07-06-06 04:53 PM

Why don't you post up some pics of it as well if you have them. A prototype rx7? I've never heard of one. I've never heard of a 12B either. 12A, sure. 13B, sure. 12B, never. I want to see this car.

The GSL-SE in '84 and '85 was basically a first gen with a second gen engine in it, but yeah, 13B. Never heard of a prototype either, post pics of your car so we know what you've got there.

12b engines do exist, I'm not a die hard rotorhead and I know that...

Prototype Rx7 exist, but unless you live in Japan and "know people" I doubt that's what you have.

However the owner my have been prototyping some of his own stuff and said that about the car as to say "if something goes wrong it's in testing".

More likly the guy maybe guessed you knew nothing about 7's and pulled your leg.

Yes we need pic to verify

my bad, I meant to state it is a 13b, and it is a GSL-SE... I have had the local RX-7 mech and a couple of other RX-7 experts look at it and have offered a good sum of $ for it and they say it is the real thing, and that there sre very few of them...however I though you guys would be the ones to ask...I had one guy tell me it came in only one color (it is sort of like a mectallic sky blue), I have pics but I have no idea of how to post them...the car is in good to very good condition and has 129000 miles on it and runs great, I picked it up for a song

sounds like you have a Standard GSL-SE.

Sorry to say your " Local Experts", don't know what they are talking about. Se's were built in 84 and 85. Although there were less of them made, they are in no means "Rare".
They came in a variety of colors. The more sought after are the Silver with Grey interior, not the burgandy interior.

You guy's are starting to worry me. How could a 1st gen 13b be a 2nd gen motor? The Se 13b
motor came before the 86 on up 13b motor. :newbie:

Mills 07-07-06 04:10 PM

You must be self-medicating again. They're both 80 cubes, and a completely different motor than the 12a-you know the motor in every other first gen? Is that close enough for ya or should I put it in unintelligible writing on a Rx pad?

Hades12 07-07-06 04:20 PM

The SE 13B and 2nd gen 13B are close to the same but very different. You cant swap plates or housings between the two because of the water Grove being moved between the two engines.

Mills 07-07-06 04:25 PM

Yeah but we're speaking in generalizations to someone that obviously doesn't know much about these cars...at least I was. He has plenty of time to find out all the actual differences in different engine build dates/chassis/etc.

Are you refeering to my quote. And what the hell are you talling about anyways?

Rock Bolt 07-07-06 09:58 PM

So, pardon my stupidity, but what you are saying is that all 84 GSL-SE's have the 13b and fuel injection?

That is correct.

Just alittle advice from an old guy. If you are going to respond to threads made by new members then lets present them with actual facts, not generalizations. I'm responding to educate him about the vehicles that he seems to be interested in. The sooner he gets the correct info the more knowledeable he will become. So when he coverses with fellow rotoheads he won't come off as uninformed:)

Rx-7Doctor 07-07-06 11:30 PM

:) It's not stupidity, it's a lack of being uninformed by the uninformed:)
Do your homework. Which means if you want to know the history of the rx7 then there are good aftermarket books avaliable with the actual FACTS. Not what Joe Blow who does not know but wants to impress people says about the car.

And the answer to your question. All factory 84 Gsl-Se's had Fi from the factory.
That's a correct statement. But now saying that all 84 Gsl-se's have Fi is a questionable statement:)
