84 electrical? problem
 

I would first like to say how much I enjoy this forum this is the first time I've been unable to find the answers to my questions in the threads. Thanks all :) . I recently decided to retire my 81 S and picked up a 84 GSL. The 84 has been sitting awhile and when I tried to get it going it cranks over and has spark- but no gas at carb. I replaced the fuel filter and pulled the fuel pump but the fuel pump works if I jump it. I checked the fuel pump leads- no power there- I tried positive pump lead to ground- no power that way either. I wonder if it could be the ecu but I'm not sure if the one in the 81 is the same. I noticed in the haynes manuel the ecu has a lead to the fuel shutoff valve but I don't know if that shuts the power off to the pump or not. I'm stumped any ideas would be very welcome.

I believe there is a relay under the dash that will cut power to the fuel pump under certain conditions. Do you hear a clicking noise from under the dash when you turn the key on. You may want to look at that. Also have you check all the fuses. (Probably a dumb question)

Try a search for fuel pump relay. You will probably get a lot of thread that will explain how the wireing is setup

Thanks I found the relay and it was working. The problem ended up being the fuel pump. It worked fine out of the car but when I did a flow test in the car it wasn't pumping hardly anything. I don't have a pressure tester so I had to measure the fuel pumped.
