84-85 Center console A/C vent replacement!!
 

Hello again everyone,

Some of you may or may not know that i make 3D printed bushings for the headlights and for the windshield wipers.
I decided to make the A/C vents for the center console of the 84-85 1st gen.
I wanted to get the forums opinion on it and if the forum would be interested in it before i start making more. Let me know what everyone thinks.

Ive never seen broken ones from age, only rough handling. I do see a lot of issues with the driver's and passengers air vent Selector switch. The one that opens up to let in fresh air. Usually tabs break off on the arm that connects to the flap. That would be a good one to reproduce too.

SA vents would be useful to be able to get.

Side note, and I know its probably the state of the art right now for some printers and scanners,
but the things I see 3d printed seem a bit rough and fuzzy when complete. I'm sure its a
combination of scanning and printing resolution plus materials used. Looks like it will be a few
years before it gets to a production level finish. In no way am I discouraging the work you have
and will be doing. Love it. Its just an observation from me.

Smokey, I agree, if you treat them with care they wont break from age. The selector switch would be simple to do.

t_g I made the 84-85 vents because that's what I had access to since I have an 84.
I could definitely look into the SA vents.
I agree that 3D printing still has a long way to go and further development in the technology is improving very rapidly.
There are methods such as acetone vapor smoothing which gives a smooth finish, still not as smooth as injection molding, but still looks good. Ill post some pics with the vapor smoothing for feedback. Don't worry, I am not discouraged at all, I am not making a business out of this, I am just trying to get the community increasingly difficult to get parts.
