83 RX7 GSL stalled

I have owned about 7 1st generation GSL and have never had the problem that I had today. I was driving it and it seemed to flood out and stalled. It briefly started again, but then immediately stalled and never started again. It has 98K miles on it.

The choke is not working like my other cars have. Could this be the problem?

The car was had been running for about 20 minutes when it stalled.

To make matters worse, I had just purchased it about 20 miles and 1 day ago.

Help to anyone that can offer assistance.

Thanks,

Scott in Tennessee

I dont see the choke being the problem. Even if the choke was not working properly that fact that you had it running cancels that out. More details.......what did you check already ie: fuel pump, ignition, gas filter, take the plugs out and see if it's really flooded. Need more info.

thanks

I think it is the fuel pump. We took the air filter off and it was not getting any gas. It has a new fuel filter and it started with starting fluid but then died when we stopped spraying it.

If you turn the key to the on position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump running under the car basically under the drivers side storage bin. If you cant hear that, I would say you've got a problem.

Almost that same thing happened to my friend, I had to run to a Schucks to get a new fuel pump, got there 3 mins before they closed. Luckily I called ahead and knew they had it, and it was waiting for me. Got it, went back to his car and installed the pump in a McDonalds parking lot with a pocket knife  Good thing Im not a big guy, otherwise I never wouldve fit under that thing, I barely dont fit as it is...

EDIT: If the choke is stuck closed, it could cause the engine to fun super rich and poorly too, so just make sure its open next time you have the air cleaner off.
