82 with 13b smokes once warmed up

Ok i aked about this a while back but i dont think i was specific on my question ok i know what the different colors of smoke mean but my question is if anyone knows why it smokes after it warms up and not before? is there any ideas as to what would cause this i believe the smoke is oil smoke also. any help would be nice

probably an oil leak. mine does it because i have an oil cooler leak and it sprays onto my cat which smokes.. also dowel pin leak that leaks on the side of the engine can smoke when the engine is warmed up. i also had a bad smoke screen when i start from a stop because my oil pan gasket was leaking onto my exhaust manifold.

Sounds more like oil control ring or coolant seal failure to me.

what year is the engine ?

mikewoodkozar 12-06-07 04:19 PM

Was the motor recently rebuilt? We need more info...

ok to be honest i dont know what year the engine is because i bought the car with the engine already in it and the person i got it from knew nothing about it. the car sat for 10 years before i got it but i dont think it has been rebuilt but i know that sitting that long can damage seals but a friend of mine told me to run some marvels mystery oil around inside the motor itself and crank it by hand before starting it so i did that a lot! then i had it running for a while and it never smoked then one day i was just letting it warm up in my driveway and when it warmed up it was smoking and now it always does when its warm

Yea I just got a "smoking motor" once I opened her up everything was an great shape but the oil seals were completely shot. Absolutely the cause of the smoke.

Yep.

I had a junkyard 13B once that ran good for a short while, then one day just started belching smoke.Often, the carbon and crud is the only thing sealing the engine up because the oil seals are fried. If the carbon is dislodged or burnt off, then the engine starts to burn oil and smoke.Marvel or ATF oil is very effective at removing carbon buildup.
Once the engine is warm and the oil thins out,it usually gets worse.Heavier 20W50 oil might help a little, but a rebuild(or at least some soft seals) is typically in order.......
