80 Ignition (MSD-DIS) and RB header question

Hello, I don’t write very often but im always lurking...

I will be installing an MSD 6a with a two post DIS Coil (msd or Accel) in the near future as well as a RB header to replace to dated Thermal Reactor.

I have been doing lots of reading and have only found mentions to little issues associated with doing this conversion.

1) I have noted in the that the '80 distributor is wired backwards....."triggered on the other side of the pulse"....What does this mean? Some one wrote " J-105 igniter is some times off and should be wired to always on"...how do I do this??? Can some one write up a quick how to adapt a '80 distributor to use an MSD?

2) I have also noted that people have mentioned the trailing ignition switches off to help the 80's run rich helping the TR burn. Is it right to assume the above modification (what ever it is) will stop this.

Basically i need instructions to help me with this conversion. Please be as detailed as you can, I am by no means an expert in ignitions!!!

This post was already on the second page and nobody could help this guy? C'mon people!

The MSD will work with the pickup signal wires in an '80 dizzy. I don't know which polarity the pickup wires hook up to the green and purple wires of the MSD, but it's ok to try it both ways. Use whichever polarity works best and doesn't give a funny advance or retard reading.

As for the semi-firing trailing fix, that's the easy part. Just bypass the box and hook the J-105 straight to the trailing pickup wires. Again, I don't know the polarity, but it's only one way or the other. Just check everything with a timing light when you're done and flip the wires around if it's too far advanced or retarded.

I will get back with you on the 80's wiring. Im curious myself.

I cant find an 80 wiring diagram. but all you got to do is open the igniter box and identify which is leading. IIRC, the only difference between an 81+ and 80 igniter is the size. Colors should be the same hopefully.
