79 into a tree...
so i was killing time waiting for my friend and theres this little place by my house called the finger lakes and its a little camp place with a nice loop road for being a badass around so i decided to take the turn pretty fast and throw it into second and from the dew on the road it was slippery and i went off the road and my right front wheel/fender went into a tree pretty hard...i nursed it home but i can see from the start that the shock is bent...wondering what else may be bent...cross member? control arm...hopefully will have pics up tomorrow...man am i bummed...only had the car on the road for 2 weeks i really hate myself
|
Try not to take turns fast when the roads slippery. :uh:
|
thanks...
|
Not trying to bag on you but that makes 2 trees in a month, the last one was a total. It was a nice looking tender blue one too.
|
Simma down with the trees. Maybe you should keep yourself from driving like that for a while..
|
is it worth fixing? i think the cross member is bent, the engine bay is pushed in, the strut is bent and the fender and hood are toast...dammit dammit dammit i feel like such a jackass...
|
I swear, them damned things just pop up outa nowhere
This one tree backed up into my honda hatch one time... |
If the unibody frame is bent behind the suspension mounts forget it.....otherwise if you can DIY it might be worth it. Now guy, do yourself a favor and go get an advanced driving school under your belt, everyone has to learn, but save your pocketbook this misery and get some skills the fast way.
Next time it could be a young family involved........... |
damn drifters lol jk jk that really ducks man i feel for ya

Pretty soon FIAT will no longer mean: Flying Into A Tree.

Hood, fender, etc., are cheap from a good JY and very easy to replace. Once you have the old bent metal off just drive it to an alignment shop and thay can straighten the subframe, etc., for you for cheap. Tell 'em your story and they'll give you a discount in exchange for having given them a laugh.
It's happened to everyone who drives nice sportscars. Usually just once. I find that Pirelli tires stick best on wet surfaces, and that's what I use, since I did the same thing as you 50 years ago. No problem ever since. |
yes, one of those shops will have a huge rack looking device that they put your car on and it pulls the car back into shape.

No matter what the frame will usually bend when you get in a crash. Hopefully you can fix it and not have another 7 go to the junkyard. Good luck and hope you fix it up
