79 Head Lights

I have a 79 and the head lights work and everything, but when I go to turn them off or put them down the left head opens and closes repeatedly. Can't figure out how to get it to stop doing that but it does finally close after it closes and opens a few times.

There is a relay clamped to headlight door motor, square covered with a black boot that likely is cause of your problem. Back when these cars were new(er) we replaced them...nowadays your best bet is to take it out & disassemble to access contact points that are likely pitted/corroded. Clean them up and use electrical contact cleaner on them to get rid of any residue.
There is a thread near the bottom of this page titled: "Headlights cycling" that covers what needs to be done and some pics to help you recognize the relay involved. Post back your results if this helps.

Thanks for the reply GSLSE, The funny thing is it seems to get better over time. I'll see what Kris and I can do this weekend.

Will look forward to the results of the contact cleaning. I haven't seen a 7 do this in quite some time honestly, though it has happened and the relay has been the suspect.

Problem was the relay, Replaced with a spare we had laying around. Swapped it back and the issue followed the defective relay.

Glad to hear that you and your son got the issue figured out and repaired! One step closer!
