79 to 80 caliper conversion questions

Hey everybody. Been doing some reading on how to upgrade the wedge style calipers on the front of my 79 august of 78 sa22c.

I read on this page here

That i am able to run the caliper and bracket from an 80 model and still use my standard hardlines. not trying to reline the entire car just yet. and i can get calipers with the bracket for a decent price on rockauto. my question is there are a few choices on their website with different thread pitches being listed and

Here is the link for all the calipers that rockauto lists for the 1980 model sa22c.

here is a screenshot. you can see they are many to choose from. with different threads, and casting numbers, my chassis is an August of 1978, 1979 model year sa22c vin # sa22c516446.

78-79-80 pitch is identical. why they list more than one pitch is odd.

Hi Murray,

If I recall correctly, The 1980 caliper is a direct replacement for the '79 front spindle and is the only piston caliper with a 1.25 thread pitch. All FB chassis used the 1.00 pitch.

I couldn't find '80 calipers for mine so I just bought a bag of the 1.00 flare fittings and swapped them out when I converted to the 84-85 spindles. Good luck!

So what rockauto caliper rebuild suppliers have been doing is they put converters on all the calipers. You might get a FB one and an SA one. I did when I order new calipers. So I remove the converter on the SA caliper cause I have an SA and left it on the FB caliper so it would bolt up to my SA brake line. You could email them to confirm but I think thats what you will get; a mixture of calipers with converters bolted into them That way the remans don't have to worry about whether its and SA or FB caliper.
