(Good things) 1984 GSL 12a RX-7

Racing Beat header, No Rats nest, Alpine speakers in the back, New Tie Rod ends, Electric fan, New OMP, New Brake Master cylinder, New Clutch Master cylinder, New Slave cylinder, GSL-SE oil cooler, New lights. New Rear shocks from Victoria British "Blues". 1979 low compression rotors "NOT SURE IF LOW COMPRESSION" That's what I was told... 1979 housings for sure. 119,200, Glass moon roof is on the way.

(Bad things)

No A/C "Leak". Clear Coat is pealing off. Springs are old, front struts need to be replaced. Needs speed cable. Exhaust leak on the flange that connects the catalytic converter pipe to the muffler pipe "Bad welding job....".Needs Brake rotors turned and new brake pads. Needs a new paint job. No amplifiers because they didn't seem to work with the alpine speakers. Some hail damage. Those thin tire wheel well rubber things came off.

to me that would be about a $800 car without hearing it run or driving it or checking for wear. it is missing the factory radio and shift knob but the leather looks decent from the pics. i'd really have to drive it but just seeing it, i'd say around $800.

79 low compression rotors? i don't think there was a choice of low or high compression in 79. they're probably 9.5:1. but i agree, u shouldn't have any problem getting around 800-1000 for it.

Ah, the shifter was a 80$ momo and I am getting a stock stereo to fill in the empty spot. I have a 400$ Alpine head unit thats in there now but I am going to sell that individually instead.







Thanks for the info on the 1979 rotors. Its a 1984 engine and everything with 79 housings. I am guessing that is why he called them low compression. I guess they had less compression or something before 84. I have no clue only trochoid could say that stuff. I am still a rookie on housings and rotors.

Yea I'd agree with the 800-1000 estimates. Seems like a solid car, but needs a fair amount of work.
As for the rotors, all 79-85 N/A 12a rotors have the same compression ratio, but 79-82 are heavier than the 83-85 ones. He might have been referring to the weight difference and said it wrong (?)

If the car could handle the trip to British Columbia, Canada I know a guy who will fly down, buy it for $800 and drive it back to BC, CA. :)

Everyone missed the most critical item, or maybe I did, how much rust?

We assumed his 'Bad Things' list was completely accurate, as most sellers are. No rust mentioned... ha :rlaugh: ha ha

The only rust that was developed was inside of the spare tire well. It wasn't even like it was rust it was like a layer that built up. I managed to scrape most of it off. What happened was that the rear window would not seal when it rained on the past owner. So the water filled up in the wheel well. Luckily there is no damage or rusted through metal.

Then there is the rust spot where that chip paint came off on my left rear of the car. It's in the picture.

I can't really tell you about under the carpets since the only place I have raised up is under the right floor board to put in sirus radio and stuff. I have had the speaker panels off and that all looks clean. The engine bay bottom has no rust. The body on the bottom doesnt have any rust.

Any more questions trochoid? Thats why I asked you because I knew I would forget some stuff.

Then again with the paint in that condition in such a wet/humid state who knows?
Not to dis on his car. It's beautiful with the things he's done to it. I like it and wish I could take off work and could afford to drive down and buy it at the same time.

He's saddened to sell it, as I would be after two years of hard work. I don't know that he'll mind me saying why? His dad had an accident in his truck with a small car about the same size and the car was crushed pretty much in the front. It's safety. I think at 17 that is a very mature decision so I want it to go to someone in RX7club so he can follow it and stick with the car he loves.

C'mon people! Someone's gotta buy it and buy it at a reasonable price so he can get a better DD for when he gets his license! :)

That or you can turn it into a race car and race it? :D

With no rust in the usual spots and assuming all the mechanicals are in great condition, then the only downside I see is the paint. If all of the above is true, it could be worth 1500.

So am I understanding this correctly Nick, your Dad wants you to sell the car and buy a bigger one for safety? That sucks.

I agree with $1500 with the amount of things he's put into it. Also not to cut him short on buying another safer car since he's a fellow RX7 Club'er. :)

That's where the vehicles have not been touched yet. My dad was sitting at a stand still waiting to go into a customers house and the car was driving erratically eventually swerving into his lane. Thats only 35mph in that little car. Imaging if I were to screw up any higher..........

Honestly, the size of the vehicle is not important. What is important is the crumple zones and how well they perfom at protecting the occupants. Many small cars are safer for occupants than most of Detroit's older big iron full sized cars. When I was young/stupid and under the influence of whatever, I rolled a 73 Civic end over end at 65 mph and walked away from it. Had I hit something at that speed, it wouldn't matter what vehicle I was in, I'd be dead.

The 1st gens actually hold up quite well in an impact, and there are a number of members who have had major accidents, totaled thier 7s and have walked away from them. Sadly, there are also a few who haven't. It all depends on the accident itself and the dynamics involved.

I know, I just want to have a better chance of walking away. :(

Sorry to see you selling your 7. I know I've been a pain in your ass at times, but that was my way of getting you to learn more and make better and more relevant posts, which I must say, you have made good progress in doing such.
