4" Weber Stacks-Filters?
 

Hey everybody, I've got a set of 4" stacks, trumpets, bells, whatever you want to call them, and I cant seem to find filters for them anywhere...I've got a pair of "socks" but they don't fit due to the oil filler neck, and beehive, does anybody have any ideas of what to do, short of buying a set of new shorter stacks? It would be nice, ideally, to be able to run a box type filter element. any ideas??? Thanks as always.....

I've seen people use womens stockings, folded a few times and zip-tied to the trumpets.

Kim- ha, yea I've been entertaining the pantyhose idea...but other than the fact I've got to walk into walmart and try and discreetly go look for/purchase some pantyhose in the most masculine way I can muster because even if I go in and buy something else macho it would still be weird (ie beer + pantyhose?? some dumbells and pantyhose??hahaha)- I've heard horror stories of people sucking them in, and that would suck....hardcore with no pun intended.

jeezus- thanks for the link I looked them up and am waiting for them to call back, I want to see if they would be able to use a 5"+ filter element so the top of the stacks arent sitting right on the "roof" of the plates...

they are cheap and have a reinforced spring so that they dont colapse

They only fit over my mikuni velocity stacks with some coaxing however they fit better than the panty hose I was using. Fortunatley I'm marred I mean married.

If your afraid of buying pantyhose than try plastic abrasive pads. I've used them before on a lawn mower LAWL!

learner-mk, i have a similar setup with the socks, but theyre too long to use in their intended way, and to slide them all the way down just defeats the purpose, much less it chokes out the carb....

I don't run any filters. If you don't drive in the dirt or offroad you don't need them.

I have 4" long bellmouth stacks from TWM on my dellorto sidedraft. And use the filter below:

It's 6" tall, as measured from bottom to top in the picture (the height measurement on the page)
9" wide as measured form left to right in the picture (length measurement on the page)
And 6" tall, as measured from front to back in the picture (the width measurement on the page)


You'll need to find the baseplate and the top plate for your carb. I use the old school Racing Beat DHLA plates that are NLA. Search. Pic from bad angle here but you can see - no oil filler tube:

And you'll need to either remove the oil filler neck and plug the hole with a -12 red plastic plug from Earls Plumbing or cut and reweld the filler neck to go around the filter. AS the filter will stick over the oil filler hole in the intermediate plate - by about 1/2 way.

I bet you could get the weber filter socks to fit they'd just need to be positioned to either side of the oil filler neck. They don't slide all the way down to the carb, you just slide them over the mouth of the stack and hose clamp it down.

Go with shorter velocity stacks and one of the K&N box filters. Your stacks only need to be around 2", unless you want lots of lowend torque and limit the topend.
