Yes, but buyer beware: salvaged vehicle title

I'd pick the car up for that price if I were anywhere near TN, but it'd become my project car.

RX7145 03-30-04 07:38 PM

For now:(

RotaryRyan 03-30-04 08:07 PM

GavinJuice 03-30-04 09:39 PM

Good ole Minnesnota

RotaryRevn 03-31-04 12:43 AM

It's salvaged, I'm sure that cluster isn't the one for the car, that car is too beat up for the milage

Hadoken 03-31-04 08:33 AM

I've never actually been in a 12A, but I was under the impression that the 12a's had a different gauge from the 13b GSL-SE..and thats a GSL-SE guage cluster...
Maybe I'm thinking of the SA guages...does anyone know?

K-Tune 03-31-04 09:50 AM

looks like pre-'84 gauges to me(un-SE). also..those are KM, not miles, so it actually has less than 37k miles. wheels look like SA wheels though.

Dom 03-31-04 10:04 AM

Those are miles. The speedometer is in miles. The 55 mph mark is highlited. Canadians don't care about the 55 mph because they have a limit of 62 mph on the highway.

Nick-7 03-31-04 12:04 PM

This car is in miles and all 84-85 cars have the same guage cluster and dash design regardless of model. The 84-85 guage cluster is the only one with the tach not in the center, oh well.

Rotofire 03-31-04 12:10 PM

So what's the argument? It's got the SE wheels (or so they look like them anyway) my 85 dosen't have that little circled 55mph mark. That and the center console is completely different. So it is deffinetly an SA, with the original gauge cluster, but if it is a different cluster, buy it and sue them for odometer fraud....hehe

-either way, it's a good price, as long as it doesn't go over 300 bones

LMAO sorry guys, when I was looking I had two browsers running, both with RX7s from EBay, I was looking at the GSL-SE one by mistake.
So..just, ignore that up there. That is obviously a 12a guage as it doesn't go to 140mph..

purple82 03-31-04 03:17 PM

Man, this thread is really messy. The gauge is right, it's from an 82 because it's got the 85mph speedo (gov't mandate). The wheels are from an SA, not an SE, but this is definitely a FB. It looks like a base model because I think I see manual mirrors.

Off the subject, I don't think there is any difference between the gauges on an SE and 12a cars from the same year.

This is a really rough looking 37k miles. You buy low miles because it indicates the condition of the car. Clearly the mileage isn't a good indication of the condition of this car.

vipernicus42 03-31-04 03:56 PM

purple82 and Nick-7 are right.

I have an '84 GS which has an identical guage cluster to my friend's '84GSL and all the GSL-SEs that I've seen.

It's an '84-85 thing. Dash is different too :)

To break it down a little for those of you who apparently didn't bother to read the ad...

VIN Number: JM1FB3318C0656882
It is an FB.

1982 Mazda RX-7. Odometer shows 037706. 5 speed AC car.

It is in fact an '82. I drive one. I know the interior.

It is a GS or possibly just S model. 82&83 had GSL emblems on the B-Pillar if they were such. I believe it is most likely an S model as it has no sunroof.

This vehicle was previously listed on Ebay but removed. I had not done a VIN search and did not know the vehicle was a salvage vehicle. The vehicle became a salvage vehicle on 10/07/00. The title will be available (the state is sending me the updated title).

Vehicle runs and drives and has some good parts. The body does have some rust on it and the seats have cuts in them. The VIN search showed that the odometer is correct. The motor runs but could use a tune up.

The cluster is original. The mileage is in fact in miles. And it is correct. He has done a VIN search.

Just wanted to make sure that everyone was on the same page here about this one.:)

Sweet the FM light is on that means the raido still works!!!!

Illswyn 03-31-04 04:43 PM

Beware ultra-low mileage. I bought a '91 Tempo with 11,400 miles on it, garage kept, entirely bingo-driven miles by a 90+ yr old woman. You get that kind of thing here in FL.

But the shocks and springs were dead, tires dryrotting, exhaust rusted through, brakes dying, etc. Basically, it wasn't driven enough to keep itself in better shape. I shouldn't have bought it, but I still have it 2 years later, still running, even though I've had to put a ton of money into keeping it that way.

cosmicbang 03-31-04 05:01 PM

Those look like the stock FB steel wheels. The hood has some serious paint problems, which makes you wonder if something happened to it and was repainted. The nice thing about this car is no sunroof. That can be hard to find sometimes and is a real plus.

peejay 03-31-04 05:46 PM

Yah low mileage cars are a nightmare anywhere you go.

Just imagine how many things that normally would be replaced as they wear out would still be original. Then imagine that all of those things need replaced. Then remember that cars that sit generally have more problems from lack of motion (rubber seals sticking to the shafts causing them to tear when the car moves again, rotary engines do not like sitting for long periods at all, etc)

That is in no way an SA cluster. SA clusters have green backlighting like God intended. As Brian Heston said, it is definitely a Series 2. The 10th digit of the VIN is "C" which indicates that it is a 1982 model. (1980 = A, '81 = B, '82 = C, etc, skipping I and O)

Lotus00 04-01-04 12:34 AM

looks like crap... maybe id be interested if the other car im looking at falls through, but even then I say the car is iffy

... at least it in minnesota! (maybe the third one I have seen for sale around here)
