2nd gen plug usage in a 1st gen question
 

Can the 86 plugs be used in are 1st gens for a better burn???? thought i read somewhere they can be and i cant seem to find 1st gen plugs in my town anyway?

You can order plugs online at sparkplugs.com, only takes a couple days to get them. Consensus opinion is that NGKs are best, and you can try both BR8EQ14 (hot) and BR9EQ14 (cold). Check it out. About $6 each.

Another club member recommended Autolite 2626 plugs because they are harder to flood and foul. About $3 each, and they have the same dimensions as NGKs. I don't know if they'll last longer, so what I decided is to have both NGKs and 2626s, new, handy, then replace them with the opposite brand when they fouled and I changed plugs. So far I've thrown out a lot of NGKs and no 2626s, so I think they're working good. In fact I've gotta order some 2626s pretty soon.

just wondering casue i hav a set of new ones for my old 86 will they work is the main ? and to kinda change subject do they sell electric wp's for are cars

for a better burn? try the NGK B8ES or BR8EIX.

I've been running 2nd gen plugs in my 12a since I bought the car. No issues.

wow thanks man. thats all i really wanted to know. i have the trailing and leading ones. Just wanted to use them up since they are expensiv little buggers. thanks all for the input!!!! Now about that electric water pump???? :)

i use all second gen plugs in my first gen fit perfect the housings are perfectly made for the plugs

Are you carb'd or FI?
Are you running the stock coil or the 2nd gen leading coil setup?

stock carb switching to the direct fire setup with some blasters soon

Remember that the 2nd gen plugs are 7's and 9's. Where the heat range for the stock 12a is 8"s.

If most of your driving is highway or spirited then run the 9's in the leading and the 7's in the trailing.
If you do normal driving or stop and go and city driving then use the 7's in the leading and the 9's in the trailing.
You will get better mileage with the direct fire set up.
I got a minimum of a 3 MPG increase when I switched just to the 2nd gen leading coil.

Wehn I recently took off my 2nd gen leading coil and ran the stock coil and left the 2nd gen leading plugs I went from an average of 26.9 MPG combined to 22.9MPG.
My mileage on that particular run should of been around the 27.5 mark because it was a 100 mile test with approx 7-8 miles only of intown driving.
