2nd Gen GAS tank in 1st gen?

Wondering if anyone is using a 2nd gen fuel tank in thier S2 Rx-7? I was thinking about doing this so that I can use the intank pump with the correct PSI and avoid having to buy an aftermarket pump for now... I mean it is held up by straps as is the 1st gen couldn't I just strap it up there?

What do you guys think? I have one is why I am asking... It would shrink the cost of this project if I could use it....

ummm i dont think it would work. it would probably take some seriosu fabbing and by the time you were done you could have just bought a 75 dollar pump

If you have a good welding shop in the area,just have the 2nd gen slosh tank and mounting ring welded into the 1st gen tank.The FC fuel pump assembely is just the right height to fit.I had mine done,very simple,about 175 bucks.Not super cheap,but its done right and I never have to worry about having the right pump or having to listen to a loud,exposed external pump.
The toughest part is getting the tank SUPER cleaned out so theres no gas fumes.A couple shops wouldnt touch it because it was a fuel tank.3rd time was the charm though,and it came out beautiful and fully functional.

I know nothing about the 2nd gen tank. But I have heard old timers talk about cutting and welding on tanks. What you do is run the exeaheast from a car, truck, tractor into the tank and then work on it. Keeps any fumes from catching and any that do will not run back into the tank.
