215mm clutch vs 225mm clutch.
 

So far as I understand it, the 12A got the smaller and the 13B N/A cars got the larger one...

If I get a light flywheel, it'll probably be for the larger clutch, right? Or are the flywheels non interchangable?

Also, does 10 mm actually make that much of a difference?

the 12a up to 82 has 215mm and 83-85 12a's have 225mm, and all the 13b's from 84 up should have 225mm as well. Racing beat has light flywheels for both the bigger and smaller along with matching counterweights (83-85 12a have lighter rotors) so you need to make sure you get the right flywheel/counterweight combo to make it work right. good luck.

The 215MM clutch was for early 12As,the 225MM was on all 83-85, GSL-SE and all N/A 2nd gens.All have the same spline count and are interchangeable.
You must use the correct flywheel for the year of engine,to get the counterweighting right.If you go aftermarket light,you must match the clutch size and generation.All 1st gens use the same ring gear/tranny,so going to 215mm or 225mm is simple.But if you run a 2nd gen tranny you must use a 2nd gen 225mm light flywheel.

The smaller clutch disc help speed shifting,....its a small amount of improvement but its there.Personally Id take the larger disc.

HYELLO THERE. I GOT A CLUTHC ON EBAY GUYS SAID IT WOULD FIT. AFTER I GOT IT HE SAYS THAT The disc is 8 5/8 inches. IF YOU CAN HELP LOOK ON EBAY ITEM NUMBER 7932819260 - Mazda RX7 Clutch kit. MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOT A METAL PIECE SCRAPPING INSIDE THE MOTOR BUT IT DOESNT FEEL LIKE ITS LOSING POWER. CAN THAT BE THE CLUTH IS OUT ? I STILL DRIVE IT. PLEASE HELP

I`ll bet you a cool monkey that the metal scraping sound is the flywheel bearing gone to pieces!

Did you change it when you had your gearbox out? Well, you should have...

When having the box out, always change the flywheel bearing along with the throw out bearing, its cheap insurance.

If you dont know what it is, its the small roller bearing that sits inside the eccentric shaft. Looks like a ring with little rollers inside. The lack of one will cause a metal scraping sound..

You've gotta give up a little more information. Does the sound happen if the clutch pedal is up or down, transmission in gear or in neutral, with the car stopped or moving, all the time or anything like that? Does it change on engine RPM or the car's speed?

As "mortenf" said, it may be the pilot bearing, but that'd only make noise with the car stopped, in gear, clutch down.

pre-83 has smaller flywheel to compensate for heavier rotors. 83-84 are bigger due to lighter rotors.

Well, the sounds of scrappind sounds at any rpm. when the car is at 5k an is being driven it make like a fast vibration and sound. but at any rpm in neutral sounds here and there. so is 8 5/8 in the right size for an 84gs clutch? the sounds happends with clutch down and up. even just at idle in neutral. it drives like before the sound but that sound sounds like its going to go,so what is it that happening? so do i need more than a clutch to fix this problem? i can go and get the parts i need on sunday so what part do i need and what tools. if you can look at ebay item#7932819260 - Mazda RX7 Clutch kit it will show all i have right now regarding fixing this clutch problem :confused:

Larger size clutch will grab harder; and weigh a tad more.

pull the trans and look for damaged flywheel friction surface.....and metal shavings.

i tried but it didnt let me post. im trying to work ont he car this weekend so im trying to get as much info. so i dont want to wait till it lets me post. since i saw this post then i figure is regarding the same topic.(clutch) so will the 8 5\8in cluth fit? if the fly wheel is meesed up alot is it hard to replace?remove etc.? :confused: :confused:
