How many cool projects do I have anyway? I'm sick. Sick sick sick sick. :D
Think I can fit this https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230359&stc=1 into this? https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=174767&stc=1 |
Ya. You got a lot of projects. I like them too. Keep it up Jeff.
|
wtf. its like...i love to hate u and stuff man. haha. gl on all the projects. hope atleast 1 gets done.
|
Gonna be NA or turbo'd
That is gonna be awesome! Please Please Please document the whole process! |
Short answer is yes! ;) I'm slowly planning a 20b FB (for sometime in the unspecified future, after my 13bt fb is done) so I'm interested to see how you go about this...

I hate you...............but in a good way. :)

I suppose at least one big project will get done. That black '84 is already done. ;)
NA then maybe turbo. It needs a rebuild. The plan is to get it running in the car and learn how to tune. Remember I'm from the world of carbs. Then rebuild it as the money flows in. Then maybe turbo under light boost. Gotta upgrade the rest of the car too. Although I must say I like the aspect of a sleeper that looks stock on the outside. It looks ok in the picture above anyway. Of course it will sound different. Aftermarket rims would be a dead giveaway that something is different. I guess I could document the whole process. I'll have to see how much time it will take. 82transam, did you modify a fuel cell to fit an FB? That should be useful. I will swap in a GSL-SE gas tank. Ready to hate me more? In a good way of course. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230547&stc=1 Even old and dirty, the 20B just looks cool. :D The header I built for another project. I think with a couple tweaks it will fit the RX-7. It's almost equal length. Only the front pipe is a couple inches longer than the other two. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230548&stc=1 |
Wow. Jeff, every single time - it never fails - I log into rx7club and you have another project going.
|
You're right. I'm not sure how long I can keep this up. :D
|
Stop collecting junks and concentrate on one project. Thats my main problem also. :)
|
Ya! You should give me one of your projects. I really don't care which. :)
Seriously though, very cool stuff. I would love to see progress pictures of this. |

Here's an old picture while fabricating the header. I cut up an old 12A header that someone had tried to fit to a 13B. The flange was all ugly so I cut it off.
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230595&stc=1 Here's the fuel pump. It's a Walbro inline like the GSL-SE pump. Should fit fine on an '83. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230596&stc=1 |
Jeff
Contact Rene @RX3mist.com for a 20B header. If he can make custom 20B turbo manifolds, Im sure he can do the same for it. In addition, he recently built a 13-B header using 2.25 pipes which is less restricted than RB/RE. I bet that will make that 20B scream louder. |
well..... i think all of it is crap and i'll collect it right now . Erik
(p.s. me w/ directions) |

Not sure what I would do for the fuel needs of a 20b, probably something similar. Of course i'm getting ahead of myself, as I haven't even turned over the 13bt yet, haha...

The GSL-SE tank turned out to be extremely rusty inside. :(
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230706&stc=1 https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...d=230707&stc=1 It was sitting for 10 years without a fuel cap. Every time it rained, a little bit would dribble past the unleaded flapper valve thing and into the tank, where it sat under a thin layer of gas. There are large chunks of rust that flaked off of the fuel filler tube, along with a ton of rust all over the place inside. I'm not sure I can clean it all out by simply removing the inlet/outlet and attempting to wash it out. I may need to transfer the slosh cup and inlet/outlet into the '83 tank. Can I do this without cutting the '83 tank? It's in great shape as far as I know. Anyway I'll know more about the GSL-SE tank when I get a chance to take off the inlet/outlet fitting and get a real look down inside. Who knows, maybe it's just a little rusty near the filler tube and the rest is ok. |
wacky, I'd definitely want the primary header pipes to be no larger than 2" OD. I'm not sure what the benefit is with 2.5". My stock ports are tiny anyway. I'd rather keep velocity up.
I want to rebuild it with T2 sleeves eventually. Even then I'd still want 2" primaries. 2" primary pipes into a 2.5" collector should do the trick. Then if and when I go turbo, I'll consider a Rene manifold and other sizes. dayton, yeah the 20B has a 1st gen front cover on it. The burden lies in fabricating a front crossmember with motor mounts to support the front mount 'bar' thing. Of course it will help stiffen the front of the car, which is good. :) |
Hope to see it sometime this year. You finished the 4-rotor yet?
|
I see the benefit of posting projects on the forum now... It keeps the pressure to finish them on.

The 20B could get done this year. It just won't be ready for the big BBQ. Maybe I can take something else of similar coolness. |

Here's a short list of everything. Car '83 GSL color: white (seems to be the color of choice for 20B installs) Engine early 20B #756 needs a rebuild ECU MegaSquirt 2.2 board with 'classic' CPU J-109 ignition with late leading Misc Walbro 255 lph GSL-SE tank (maybe) BUR7EQ spark plugs still debating clutch radiator (tall or 3 core short) clutch fan or electric 2.5" exhaust There are probably some that I'm forgetting. It's not easy keeping track of several projects at once. |
You work on lots of cool projects and come up with lots of creative solutions to the problems encountered. I like to see what's next. Keep them coming. With all the progress that you make on all those projects I kinda wonder if you ever sleep?
