20 mm Freeze Plugs
 

Well I think I solved the mystery of my disappering coolant, disintigrated coolant O rings on the intake. I ganked the intake other day, took advantage of the 4 days it's taking to get a new gasket from Mazda and really cleaned up the eninge bay. Lots of degreaser! While it's off I decided I wanted to tap in some 20mm freeze plugs.

It will make it easier to remove the intake in the future, less mess, and I'm planning on a new carb anyway so it would happen sooner or later. I went to tap them in with an 11/16 deep socket from what I read while searching but they didn't comply as easily as expected. What's the secret to getting them in there? When I start to tap them in one side will dive in slightly more than the other, but it seems impossible to straighten it out. Once it starts the plug just gets more skewed until it pops itself out. Ideas? The gasket should be in and I'll be tackling this Tuesday night. Thanks.

I was thinking about doing quaters too. Do they sit on the inside lip? I'm not at home to go outside and check.

I've got the gasket infront of me. Any final suggestions? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

It takes patience to get the plugs to fit. Ive done 2 engines and I didnt see any trick, just got to hit it right.

19mm too small?

Is it just me, or is this statement a little contradicting? :p:

I just put the gasket on with the O rings and thats it, and surprisingly, it doesnt leak.
