2 stroke oil in gas

I have heard it is a good idea to mix the gas w/ 2-stroke oil to help pro-long engine life. Is this true, and if so does anyone know the ratio of the mixture? If your wondering I am running a 1983 Limited. I plan to just run a mixed fuel and unhook the oil metering pump.

There have been a bunch of threads about this topic. Use the search feature, with "premix" as the subject, in the upper right corner of this page and you'll find all the info you can handle.

I went ahead and did the search for you since I'm bored out of my mind at work. I searched all three generations, you can limit the search to just the 1st gen if you want.

Premix

I used to do it, because I had to... my OMP had failed.

For best engine life, disable the OMP (pull the front cover off and remove the OMP's driveshaft) and run premix, about 1 ounce of oil per gallon. That way you aren't injecting dirty, cruddy, not-designed-to-burn crankcase oil in the engine. 2-cycle oil is designed to lubricate when mixed with gasoline, and burn cleanly.
