1st gen stays running after key off
everytime i crank the car and let it run. just like normal. when i cut the key off to kill it, the engine stays running and sputters to a stop. i was wondering what could be making it do this. also, some of the warning lights stay partially lit until the engine completely dies.

do you have a electric fan?
when you wire a electric fan to the alternator harness when you shut the engine off the fan will act as generator and power anything attached this includes lights and ignition system if you wire it into the battery harness you need to find a wire that is only hot when the vehicle is running. if you dont have a electric fan then i would put money on your ingnition cylinder (what the key goes in) could have ark in it on the copper ring that sets on and off when this happens the signal OFF/ON setting will be half and half. take some electric cleaner and spray inside the key hole be very fluid with this dont be stingy and then put the key"with the battery out" turn it of on a bunch of times spray and repeat a few times see if that helps if it doesnt help you may have to replace it. |
yes i have an electric fan. ok. i see what ur saying. cause when the fan dies down to a lower rpm, the engine finally dies. but thats enough to make it fire????

E fan needs to be wired from a relay,, common issue when its been installed with NFI

When the fan is spinning, energy is made. You can see this if you have one of those fancy
computer fans with the LEDs in it. You blow some compressed air past it and the LEDs will light up brighter as the fan spins faster. It works the same way wind turbines work basically. When you have the fan on a relay, the power after you turn the fan off goes back to the relay and stops there. If you have it hooked to the fusable links/etc it will generate instead of expend energy when "cut off". |
This brings up an interesting question. For best results, wouldn't you want the fan wired to a thermostat and continue running until the temp is within a normal range even after the engine is off.

it would not be a good idea to cool the coolant after engine off. only natural cooling would be good for it remeber aluminium and steel cool at different rates so you wouldnt want accelerate the cooling process.
