1st gen project will it fit?

Hey all,
Ive beeen pondering on a 1st gen seven project car and just wanted to get opinions

Okay the motor would be a ford 351 with a nice build for twin turbo (twin T3's)

Or a stroked 351 (396) built for a 300-500 shot of nos....

My question is weather the ford 351 will fit in the first gen..?

That is just so wrong...don't they have a Forum or website for such atrocities that y'all can go to? This is a rotary site for Pete's sake...:(

whitch 351 are you refering to ?? cleavland/windsor ??
i'm going against the grain when i say,,go for it !!
ford small blocks are longer then the chevy's as far as fitment goes..why not a 289, or 5.0 /w a t-5 . something
that will scream/wind .. a 351 cleavland 4V is the shit
if you want big torque/power . Me,,if i had the time
and money, and place to work on a project..would be
a 1st gen with a 1969 boss 302...sort-of what your
thinking,,,about strokers,,the boss is already all that
and more,,,one could describe the boss 302 as a small block 351 C 4V...4 bolt mains,windage tray,screw in freeze plugs,steel crank,canted valve geometry heads
w/ screw in studs w/ guide plates..not that hard to find
such an engine if you know where to look

I thought the 351W block was the same as the 302, but people say the deck height is taller. You could always go for a 302 stroked to a 347. I have a 302 in my Fb, fits fine.

351 is MUCH taller. The 302 has a 8.2" deck height, the 351W has a 9.5" deck height, to accomodate the larger stroke. 3" of stroke is really the max that Ford could get from the tiny 8.2" deck height, aftermarket can get more than that (about 355 I believe) but it requires a LOT of work - stupid-short rod/stroke ratios, very small wristpin heights, and TONS of milling and counterweight reprofiling to a 351C crank.

Anyhoo, the 351W block is also much heavier - thicker castings to accomodate the larger stresses. (Remember the 302 started out life as a snoozer 221cid engine)

For a good example, take a look at an early Mustang or Falcon. The 289 fits in there real nice, plenty of room all around. The 351W is wall to wall engine, with the headers pretty much rubbing on the spring towers.

That said, there seems to be more underhood room in the RX-7 than there is in the Ford Fox-body (Fairmont/Mustang/et al) and plenty of people have twin turbo 351Ws in them.

A twin turbo 302 in a 1st-gen is actually something I keep thinking about. Way too much power, I think :)

That would be fucking sick PJ ,,,,that wouldn't be a sleeper, that would be a SNORRER !!!!

600hp 1st-gens have been done before... :D

Of course, 800+hp, that's a wee bit tricky...
