6" in back, 4's in front

You're half right. Stock, it's 4" in the front. 5 1/4" in the back. But the rear holes can also accept 6.5".
I'll post pics in the morning...

How can you stretch 5 1/4" to 6.5"?

smnc 10-17-03 11:27 PM

The hole is drilled to fit both sizes. They came stock with 51/4" inchers, but 6.5" bolt RIGHT in...

I'll take pics in the morning...

Yeah, I also heard it was 6.5" in the rear, and Ive heard that 5 1/4" will fit up front with a little "intimidation".

Actually the stock speakers in back are 6.5 inches in diameter, front ones are 4 inches. The stock rear speakers I always see are the 2 way Clarion ones (beige paper cone with the black tweeter), and they are 6.5 inches. Maybe less equipped models had 5 1/4 in back.

Thanks guys,Im going to buy a new stereo for my car,Does a good brand of 6 1/2 speakers do the job?I will probably buy a sub for the bass but i dont know if 6 1/2 will do anything for the speakers.BTW i will be getting an amp too so that should help cause i listen to music loud

The cabin of the 7 is tight enough that good 6 1/2 inch speakers will do just nicely. Add in some amps, a crossover, and you can go deaf using only those speakers :D

I personnally think there is no substitute for a subwoofer. I was thinking of making a custom enclosure to replace one of the storage bins and drop an 8 inch sub in there. It won't be like a 12 inch, but it's better than the 6.5 inch, and I don't have a big sub box which ruins the interior.

Someone posted a thread a few weeks ago about making an enclosure in the back of the cabin also.

Aaron_M 10-18-03 02:23 PM

Well im putting the 6.5's in and a sub woofer.BTW what does a crossover do?

French RX7 10-18-03 03:10 PM

A crossover allows you to choose which frequencies you want in specific speakers. You can have an active crossover which needs its own 12V power, you hook up your amp/amps to it and can select frequencies. Say you hook up a 12 inch sub with an amp, you don't want any high pitched sounds in there (the sub won't play them anyway), so you can adjust your cutoff at say 150Hz so that any sounds higher than that won't get through, and you'll only have true deep bass. There are also passive crossovers, which are just condensers and coils which filter the sound, though not quite as effective as an active one. Active crossovers usually also have independant volume controls which allows you to increase your volume to certain speakers only (kinda like a fader/balance).

I am having some pods made that go just infront of the tail lights. The car is in the shop now, but they have been really busy and have not had a lot of time to work on it.

smnc 10-19-03 08:24 PM

Really? I was sure the speakers in my -SE are 5 1/4...
I may just be an idiot tho...

Gregs 10-20-03 06:58 AM
