1985 RX7 - Worth buying this one?

Hi, there is a 1985 RX7 at a dealer here in town for a measly $995. The body is fairly good, no rust as far as I can see but the paint is really weather beatin'. The interior is fairly nice as well. The car has 123,000 miles on it too. I beleive its a GSL with a 12A motor and it has a 5spd manual on it. Is this a good buy? Should I consider buying it? I have a 1992 Plymouth Sundance now with only 68k miles and I want 80s sports car that I can get going fast. A new paint job on this RX7 would get it looking pretty decent and some minor interior work maybe if it needs it. I am not sure how it runs though I am checking that today. Thanks!

If there's no rust , interior isn't faded and cracked and runs good I'd get it. You can probably find someone to paint it for $500 and by then it would be a pretty nice car for $1500.

Also make sure it doesn't smoke out the neighborhood when you start it.

I would say it's a good deal. Look it over throughly.

I learned the biggest thing with a car is it at least has to have a good body...with no rust. Interior stuff can always be replaced. As is engine parts.

But be wary. There may be a small chance it was wrecked. Try to run a carfax on it.

check bins!

Check the storage bins! Pull out the storage bins and look for rust inside the bins they can be really bad. Other than that look at all gaps between lights, doors hood ect. make sure they are equal on both sides, if not it's probably been hit.

offer him $750 to take the "ugly nuisance" off his lot. give it lots of TLC and sell it back in a few months for $2000.
