1985 RX7 Fuel Pump?
 

Steffan (New Jersey) Hello, hope everyones day is going well. I have one small question that I'm sure can be answered quickly. Its kinda silly but the car is currently out of state at my grandfathers and nobody is able to check on it. I was wondering if anyone could give me a link to a new fuel filter. It would be greatly appreciated for any help you can leave. :nod:

Any auto parts store should have one in stock or be able to have it the next day. I always keep a couple on have for the SA and FB.

Since this is an 85, you should probably specify whether the car is a 12a (carb) or 13b (EGI); the fuel filters for each are different and not interchangeable. Have a look at the differences;

12a low-pressure filter (4-6psi?):

Obviously from the photo's above, I recommend Mazdatrix for factory parts to ensure maximum reliability.

12a 84 rx7 fuel pump
 

Hi guys I have an 84 12a I recently installed a racing beat intake and Holley 465 cfm it also has a header expansion pipe and muffler it had a carter fuel pump and was only getting 3psi to the carb so I replaced the pump with a speedmaster 14 psi 140gph fuel pump and I'm getting the same 3psi why can I not get more fuel and pressure to the carb

Are you using a fuel pressure regulator ? Because if you are you more then likely need to adjust it .

Lol ya of course I am and it's been adjusted all the way in full flow it's still only 3 psi some kind of restriction going on I've been told it could be the sock or filter around the pickup

If i remember correctly out on regulators is more flow not in. But do check all filters to see if they are clean. I ran a see through one after it comes up to the engine bay and before the regulator just in case.

If it's a Holley FPR in adds more pressure.

What FPR are you using? You might have a regulator only rated for 4psi max . Try screwing it in all the way and see if it make it to 4 psi if it does that's your problem right there .

I have an 84 rx7 12a it has a header expansion pipe and muffler I just added a Holley 465 cfm carb with high rise intake it had a carter fuel pump rated at 4 to 6 psi I was told that wasn't enough pressure to the carb so I installed a speedmaster 9-14 psi fuel pump 140 gph with a regulator that goes from 0 to 20 psi came with fuel pump when the car is cold I get 6 psi but as it warms up the pressure drops to 3 psi also brand new fuel filter has anyone else Experienced similar issue all simple things have been checked both fuel pumps give same reading what is restricting my fuel

I found that those regulators are not consistent I went thru 2 before switching to a Holley unit. Instead of fuel pressure dropping it would rise on the ones that I used . Which style fuel pump did you get? Is it adjustable ? If it is you can tray adjusting it for more pressure .What fuel filter are you using? ........ If switching the filter and adjusting the pump doesn't help you can try to blowing air thru the line to make sure they are not clogged.

Update I dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it out with distilled white vinegar blew threw all the lines removed strainer filter that was in tank and ran all new line from fuel tank to regulator. Ya the regulator could be bad the fuel pump is a speedmaster no it's not adjustable it should flow at 9 psi min so next thing will be to remove regulator and see if I am getting enough fuel to open secondaries if that doesn't work that is it it's going to the shop

Or even better go to your local Mazda dealer for parts ;)

...so my local Mazda dealer can charge me 2x as much after *I* have to tell *them* which part is needed because their microfiche system is offline and they can't find the part in inventory?

Maybe your Mazda stealership is better than the ones here in the United States.

13B is just in the new parts system (FC). Else just go your local parts store, they heave them do (Mann filters)
