1983 FB Beeping Intermittantly with no warning light
Hi, I’m a previous RX-8 owner new to the RX-7 game. I bought my 1983 FB about two months ago, and it has developed an unusual problem. It beeps very quietly and intermittantly up until it gets warm, and then the “Add Coolant” light comes on and starts beeping louder. However, my radiator is full. I tried flushing it several times, but that doesn’t seem to work. It simply delays the time until the “Add Coolant” light turns on. If needed, I can send a video or two showing the light. Just let me know. Thanks for the help. |
Sounds like a faulty oscillator, a black largish relay looking thing installed onto the front fender behind the battery, near LHS headlight.
the oscillator creates a pulsing signal for the buzzer and low coolant & oil level alarms. It gets moisture in it and they regularly fail over time. |
The oscillator could be failing and when it does it shorts and sets the warning buzzer off with no low coolant or oil lights. But if you have the add coolant light with the buzzer then it sounds like they both are functioning properly. I would suggest testing the coolant level sensor in the top of the radiator and ensuring the wiring going to it is not faulty. You can ensure the wiring is ok by making a small one wire test harness and plugging it into the female portion of the harness and grounding it. If the buzzer stops and the warning light goes off then the wiring is more than likely fine and you could just need a sender.
