1982 rx-7

All right, there is a 1982 rx-7 in my paper selling for $2200 Canadian. Now, i'm wondering, is this a good deal or not. The guy says its supposedlly in "excellent" condition. So im wordering, is this worth the money, because to some of you this might be pitty change, but im still young, and don't have a job, so this isnt just a $20 pick up.

Need more info... Mileage, body condition, interior condition, etc.

I picked up my '82 GSL for $600 US but that was because once it warmed up it would die, and the dealer actually trusted that the carb work he'd paid for had been done. with just over 80K miles it blue books at roughly $2300 US. So if you're looking at a similar condition car, then yes $2000 CN is a decent price. But it doesn't leave much room for hidden problems that might(will) creep up on you.

Just my $.02

It had better be in AWFULLY good shape to get that price for it. RX's are fairly rare up here, but they still are horribly undervalued. I picked up an 82 GSL parts car for $100 and my 83 LE for $500. True, it wasn't running and I put about $500 in parts to get it road worthy (tires (the biggy), battery, starter, distributor + cables, plugs, etc...later an alternator that went out), but it's an excellent car now.

Point is, they can be had for pretty cheap. Hell, every once in a while people give them away on the board if you watch. You'll have to learn to work on them...but that's true of an RX you get.

Might be able to talk the guy down too. I know RX's in my area always start at about $1500-$2000 (american), but typically come down to around $1000 after they can't sell it.

Would need to know more about it also to get a better idea of the true price, but 12A's just don't go for very much.

Look for rust

Pull out the compartments behind the seats, they rust like mad on the inside of the fender. Eventually the linkage will rip off. Right from the start you can expect to replace all of the cooling hoses, maybe the rad, gastank if it hasn't been done. Don't buy unless you want to fix it up, my suggestion is that if you have no job and need a daily driver, don't buy anything that's this old. But if you are handy and like fixing things, buy it for say 1000 canadian.
