1980 Has lost it's pep

I have an 1980 RX-7 that I bought new. Only 28k miles. This year when I took it out of winter storage, it's seems to have lost it's zip, acceleration seems stagnant. I have replaced plugs and it still seems slow.

Any ides?

Thanks in advance.

With the low mileage on the body, I'm guessing the car sets for extended periods of time. This will lead to the carbon and varnish build up hardening, which means the seals no longer move freely. Run a can of Seafoam through the fuel tank and always fully warm the car up before shut down. It also wouldn't hurt to to take it out and drive it hard occasionally to keep the carbon from building up.

Check fuel filters. Gas tank "sludge" could be a problem. I just rebuilt the carb on my '79 due to same. Just had gas tank off an cleaned and preparing to reinstall. Hoping that will fix the problem. Also added a 2nd fuel filter near firewall to catch any residual sludge.

I think I would take a hard look at the carb. Could be the secondaries not opening up. That would explain a lot of it.

Run it more often. Rotary's dont like sitting still to long. Even if is just idleling, that would help alot.

I would also take a look at your ignition system to make sure you are getting spark to all 4 plugs.

-and in the future, make sure you store it away properly. winter storage info in Archives I believe. With 15 min work in the fall, she'll fire up first crank in the spring and run like a champ...
