1980 gas mileage
 

Well, I bought my RX7 a few months ago. I have been kinda worried about it until this weekend. I drove it 200 miles round trip and checked my gas mileage. I got 22 mpg at around 80+ mph.

I smelled a burning smell after I got home and it smelled of oil but I don't see any leaks except for an oil pan seep.

Next step, getting some better seats. I have seats from a 1984 in it and they are killing me if I drive it more than 50 miles.

cool! for the oil pan seep, i had that too...i ever so gently tightened the screws on the oil pan and done...no more seepage :)

mine were loose as well as the lsd bolts...causing leaks in both spots...if your bolts are not loose then order a oil pan gasket from mazda and replace the gasket. carefull not to use too much pressure on the bolts as they will snap off if too tight.

as for seats...mine are comfy and its an '84...i would get newer seats but they would have to match my interior flawlessly...

don't you have to raise the motor to install the gasket?

I believe those bolts are only like 5ft/lbs or torque.

i was looking into changing the gasket when i checked the bolts...once i saw there was no more leak i ditched the idea of changing the gasket...i did searches and found conflicting info...some said no need to raise the motor and the pan slips out from the crossmember (is that what its called?) other said you have to take out the crossmember to get to the pan...if just doing the gasket i was going to just drop it the little bit i could and slip the new gasket in...you'd have to cut the gasket to get it around it but it would work fine with gasket sealer...do a search and you'll see...let me know how it goes.
