1980 fenders

I am looking for fenders for a 1980 rx7. Mazdatrix says they don't make them, but I see some vendors saying up to the 85 model is the same fender. Can someone please confirm they're the same. I'd hate to order the wrong fenders. Anyone have one for the drivers side?

Thanks

I actually flared the dang things too much grrr. The passenger side one isn't too far, but it's got some wavy too it i need to get out. The drivers side went too far and the flare part caves in when you try to push them back in. I started on the back with a 6 pack, guess I got carried away on the last one and was also trying to get out a small dent. note to self, no beer when parts cant be replaced. doh!

The SA fenders (78-80) are different from the FB (81-85) febders due to the change over from
the SA solid bumbers to the skinned modern bumpers on the FBs.

yea the fenders change from 79/80 to 81-85 to fit the plastic bumper and mount the stone tray.

I just recently picked up some NOS series 1 savanna guards, I never thought I was going to find a decent pair of guards with indicator hole cut out.

I'm sure you'll find some guards if you ring around some wreckers in your area, you'll most likely have to do some body work on them unless your lucky enough to find a undented pair.
I got a pair of Australian delivered guards(with out the indicator hole) for a series 1 rx7 here in Australia if you get desperate.

Post a want to buy ad in the classifieds section for those fenders. I have a set but there's no way we could make a deal being so far apart. The shipping would be a nightmare.

thanks for your comments guys. I called mazdatrix and they told me the same thing. The fenders are different. Given the fact that it's a 1 in a 1000 chance of finding a decent pair that don't need work or have rust I'm just gonna have to brush up on my metal working skills and fix em. It's not painted yet anyway. wish me luck :-)

Best of luck. Keep us updated with your progress!

Once you get into it you will learn quick, just take your time with things and do your research as you go and you will be right.
The money you were going to spend on fenders maybe use it to get the panels you have sand/media blasted and primed so your not dealing with rust if there's is any, then you only have to worry about knocking out dents if the rust isn't that bad.

If you've flared out where the wheel arch body line is maybe clamp the panel down and use a slide hammer from the back side to pull it back to shape.

Here's a link of a good book about metal finishing it helped me a bit with knocking dents out on my rx7... https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7wf...t?pref=2&pli=1

I found several rights and one left in Florida.

Of course I don't know the condition.
