15x8 Superlite wheel group buy
 

I've been talking to Trans Am Race Engineering about the Panasport style wheels they have.
I'm trying to get a group buy together.

These wheels are 9 lbs and fit stock body 1st gen with a 205 50x15 tire (to my specs) w/front 1/4" spacer.

They also have 15x7s and 13x7s and in different offsets too.

I can get them for a good price (under 200.00 + tax). But can get a better price if enough people are interested.

These wheels are truly awesome wheels. Rugged and lite!

Gonna need some pics to garner interest,

200 for 4, I'd do that! 15x7 I don't need wheels any larger than that.

These are DOT race Quality 9 lbs wheels. The price I was quoted was for 15x8 4.75" back spacing. If I get 4 of them.

So 15x7 would be less and 13x7 even less then that. I just need to have an idea of how many are interested to get a full quote

I would not trust any "new" Aluminum wheel that cost 50.00 each for track use.
Even Rota's cost more then that. And they weigh about 15lbs. Just say'n

DOT issues a on-road certification, not a race certification - to my knowledge. Are you saying these are Off-Road Use Only wheels, and NOT DOT rated for the street? That comes into play for anyone with an abhorrent inspection process; unless the car is a track car, only.

I expected $200 each wheel, given the design and weight. Can you confirm on both of the above? Thanks,

I was under the impression they were DOT certified. I don't know if any wheel, I have seen, have a race certification. But I have inquired and will report soon as I get an answer.
May be next week as I have a race this weekend.

From what I've heard and seen is, they hold up on the track. Even bouncing off (Race track) curbing.

They look a lot like my Konigs exscept I guess lighter. The konigs run $105 a peice so double
that for a lot less weight seems like a deal. I wish I hadn't got my Konigs now. :(

If you follow the link they say that the wheels weigh 9kg which is 20lbs not 9lbs, they also list an 850kg load rating. I have been wheel shopping a lot lately, I just converted my car to use Miata wheels and shopping in the Miata world the very best flow formed 15X8 wheels weigh 12lbs and have a 500kg rating. I don't think you will find any aluminum 15X8 that really weighs 9lbs.

If you want Panasport style 4X110 RX7 wheels you can get the Konig Rewind in 15X7 for about $105 each, or Rota in 15X8 for about $150 each.

On my car I am converting to Miata wheels and running Jongbloed 15X9 with the new 245-40-15 Maxxis race tires.

Heh 9kg..... Big difference.

Ok my konigs are lighter at 13.4 lbs and half the price. So maybe the load rating is better?
No konig specs on that.

Your right. Dam I didn't catch that. 20lbs is not good at all.:scratch: The good part is they will Machine to spec with steel inserts for the lug nuts..

Are you using the Flow formed Jongblod or the 3 piece?



So this is what my answer to the DOT cert.
"tested to Australian standards, then tested three times beyond that point, these are higher than DOT, 1 under TUV certification intact"

Price for a 15x7 is under 170.00

I have to apologize for my going off prematurely. It's just that I too have been shopping for wheels. Most real race wheels run 300.00 to 800 each. So when a friend told me he just get these wheels and was very happy with them. I thought I found what I was looking for.

mhr650> I was looking into re-drilling the axles and going will Miata wheels for the same reason. But was hopping for a general solution for all the Gen1 owners.


So far what I have for a 15x8 is.

Diamond @ 200 (12 lbs 2 piece welded Aluminum) Not heard good things-cracked broken centers (Again, this is hear say. Not experience)

Bogart @ 350 each (custom 2 piece welded center aluminum 10lbs) like Spinwerks wheels that are no longer in business.

Keiser @ 350 each (custom 3 piece race wheel 9lbs) Not real strong for bouncing off curbing

Jongblod @ 800 each (best of the best 3 piece Aluminum 9lbs) Strong and light.

Then your Rota @ 150 14lbs
Konig @ 150 14lbs (only in 4x100 bolt pattern)
949 @ 170 12lbs(only in 4x100)
Enkei @ 220 12lbs (only in 4x100)

The only Konig's I could find in 15x8 are 15 lbs and 4x100 bolt pattern

I think best of the best would have be the company that invented that style of wheel, made them out of Magnesium and drove them to the F1 championship. :)

The enkei compe is available in 15x8 and 16x8 in both 4x100 and 4x114. Not sure about the weight though. And they are under $200 a piece.

Yes. But not in 4x110 and that was my goal. And off set/ back spacing isn't what I need. My hope was a bolt on solution.

I understand wheel spacers are an option, was well as re-drilling axles.

Ahh, okay. I forgot 12a had 110 bolt pattern.
