15x7 or 15x7.5 or 15x8 rim question, also caliper clearance question (T2 brakes)?
 

Hey guys,

So as some of you know are already aware, I'll be getting some custom rims done up for this year. Now I know I can fit a 15x7 with an offset of 10 - 20mm (4.4 - 4.8" Backspace for those of you who don't know off set) And that is with lowering springs too.

I would like to go as wide as I can, and can get the tires in 7.5" if I have too instead of 8 if i truly can't fit them and get a good ride without rubbing (No rubbing at the track too not just regular street driving that I'm worried about). Also another criteria that it has to meet is no coil overs! Although I do have plans to buy coil overs later on, but this is for incase I'd like to sell them way down the years, and have a bigger market.

So if people can post pictures of clearance inbetween the spring, and the tire, and also clearance between the fender and the tire that would be great. But please don't post a ton of pictures without knowing the exact dimensions of your rims. I'm trying to keep this as informative as possible. Also don't just post a picture of how it look in general, I've already looked at pretty much every single picture that I could find in while searching.

Lastly about the caliper, if someone with an installed setup coule help me out the dimension to the inside of the caliper, outside, and over hang. This is the sheet that I need to fill out to give you a better visual representation:

Don't be a WUSS, get the 8's :P

When I mounted the Epsilons on the widebody, before the body kit, the tires hooked the fender lip. Rims are 15X8 with a 3-3/4" backspace. Had the backspace been in your posted range, they should fit. Tires are 225/50/15. One problem I ran into with my big brake upgrade and the SSR wheels was the inside face of the centers caught/bound up on the bump on the outer part of the TII caliper. Thinking the bump was decorative, I ground it down. Wrong.... While I was bleeding the brakes I heard a loud pop and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. That 'bump' is the transfer port between the 2 outer pistons of the calipers. Ruined 2 freshly rebuilt TII calipers that day. :wallbash: I don't recall the exact backspacing of the SSRs, but it's in the 4-1/2 to 4-3/4" range and clears the Eibach springs.

After I dug out and redid another set of calipers, I had to add a spacer to clear the transfer port so the wheels would even turn. Point I'm trying to make is the wheel center needs to flare away from the mounting face of the hub in order to clear the transfer port. Otherwise plan on using at least a 1/4" spacer.

I just went back and looked at the link you posted with the wheel dimensions. Now I see your asking about the problem I had with the 2 critical dimensions relating to the caliper. It may take a couple of days but I'll see if I can get those dimensions for you.

Also how does anyone know roughly how much our cars dip in under heavy breaking with about 170lb springs? I know this is still weight dependant but i'm just looking for a rough guesstimate.

best way to figure that out might be a ziptie on the shock, and then go make a couple of runs?

i dont know the offest of my wheels (i'm assuming 20), but 15x7's have over an inch of clearance between the wheel and strut, they sit pretty flush with the fenders. there is room for 15x8's but offest is kinda important.

i'm running stock brakes, cause its PP

Thats a very good idea with the zip tie and will probably try that out.

if you were lazy like me, and had adjustable ride height, you could use peejays method, and lower it until the tire rubs the frame and then raise it a tad...

or take the spring out, and see how much travel you have in the first place, its actually not too hard to do that

The zip tie idea should work just fine.
