13b-t S5 to N/A in '79 SA w/ Webers

Hey guys, i wanted to know how i can convert the 13b-T S5 Turbo 2 from a 89-91 swap with tranny to run N/A. What i wanted to do was take out my 12a to rebuild it stronger and what not. But i wanted to know if i can just buy the swap, take off everything (turbo, EFI, etc....) and slap on some WEBER 48/51 IDA carb and run it N/A. I think it would be better since that engine is strong enough for turbo so running it hard N/A shouldnt be a problem plus its 8k revvin... I will keep everything for later if i decide to go turbo race car only. Heres a pick of the swap i wanna buy. Im planning on bridgeporting at rebuild of the swap and buying a full exhaust. I figured this would be better than having to mill out rotors for better seals. I wanted to stay away from EFI and going old school carb'ed. Also if the tranny it comes with will fit. I might sound like cake but i just want some pointers.
Thanks everybody.

yeah you can totally buy the turbo engine and pull off the turbo and use a weber intake and header.

the only downside is that the turbo engine is 9.0 compression, instead of 9.4 or 9.7 like the NA's. not a deal breaker though

Sounds like a interesting set up. I see your from Chicago too, that BP is going to bring you some problems with the man. I DD'd my 12A BP and was always getting tickets for "excessive noise in a residential area"

Yea i live by Midway Airport. I was going to buy a Starlet with the motor in it already but my bimmer broke down and that got me for 3 grand so i got the SA instead. The same guy has a baby blue RX2 with some drag wheels that makes the Fiebre (FEVER) rise and rise everytime i pass it. Makes me wanna buy something just to make me feel better.

Yeah i figured the compression was going to be lower but i was gonna see if i can swap in some N/A rotors during the rebuild and keep the turbo ones for later. As for the noise i was going to try to do like a manual bypass valve after the header so i can still have the full exhaust to keep it quiet but still be able to punk the eyes out of somebody at the light. Plus being able to leave a burn mark on the side of someones door would be the final nail on their coffin. Trying to find a place round chicago that can do the engine work so if you guys know let me know. Trying to keep away from the jibaros on the north side if you know what i mean.

This what you have in mind?

yep that is exactly what i want. Im just gonna pipe it either in front of the rear tire or behing the passenger tire. That way it has some kind of sound other than just coughing.

What Jibaro's from the North Side!? LOL Im going to be honest with you. DO YOU OWN WORK! I don't want to name any names but when I first got into rotaries (99) I gave a well known racer/shop my engine to build and ended up having to file fraud charges. A year later found another North Side shop to work on my car a month later I get a call from CPD my car was found in Berwyn stripped. I moved on and those incidents inspired me to do my own work. PM me if you want the names of shops to avoid.
Sorry for my rant! LOL! I have a set of S3 13B Rotors if your interested. The apex seals are withing factory specs too. Goodluck with your project :icon_tup:

Thats exactly why i wanna stay away from the north side. Those are the exact jibaros i was talking about. I would love to do my own engine work and stuff but i work 16hrs a day monday-saturday so my time is limited. The motor is something i dont wanna rush. I seen some guys with a motor from a shop in Indiana called Banzai and they said it was a good shop. Im just trying to avoid the shipping costs cause it could go towards the weber if you know what i mean.

Banzai isn't that far I also heard of a shop called AIM in industry. They seem legit. Avoid all the boricuas they usually full of shit.

Use "race ready", the qtec didn't hold up.

Hey 84stock what does that mean? I was also thinking bout since those motors are 9.0 compression that running a good shot of NOS would be pretty sweet. Maybe a 100hp shot. I have never seen a NOS set up on some Weber carbs. I was thinking maybe using something like a fuel rail and adding two fogger nozzles with the tips cut off so they shoot straight down into the Carb. Just thinking of some options of thing I haven't seen before. What you guys think.

trochoid 02-20-11 02:33 PM

I rebuilt a Dell that was set up for NO2 on a carbed SE engine. It had 4 nozzles tapped into the intake runners giving it an almost straight shot down the center of the runners. I'd tap the runners instead of shooting down the carb throat. Only thing I didn't like about it was the runners are a bit thin and the threads can easily strip. Adding bungs would solve that problem.
