13B engine on Ebay

Is this Eng a 4 port or newer 6 port?

It has an EGR valve, that would make it a 6port. It also does not have the oil feed line fitting for the turbo.

Honestly, I can't tell by the pictures. They are at bad angles.

If it's an 86+ 4 port, then it would have to be a turbo.

Have him send you a clear picture of the front (cover) for the Turbo Oil return, or a Clear picture of the intake ports to confirm.

Let us know, you got me curious.

I'd say it's a 86+ one. Look at the CAS and the water neck, they are for a FC.

Take a look at this picture. This motor is most likely not a four port.

EGR valves only came on the 79-80 12a Cali engine and 86-88turbo and N/A cars and 93-95(13b). The center plate on this motor has FI bosses so that rules out the possibility of it being a "Frankenstien" four port (12a sides and 13b internals).

The front plate does not have the oil feed line for the turbo. In order to be able to use the center plate that this motor has you must be using the 86' and newer rotor housings. If thoses rotor housing must be '86 or newer then the side plates must be 86' or newer due to the location of the inner and outer o-rings for that particular motor design. In 86' the O-rings were moved from the rotor housings to the side plates.

The only way that motor could be a four port, is if the side plates are from a 12a. If that were the case that motor would not have any o-rings at 4 of the 8 places it is supposed to. And i'll bet $10 it wouldn't even run.

Mazda did not paint their side plates at the factory!! (not pertainent to the 4/6 port argument but worth pointing out)

This motor is not a four port. It is a rebuilt 6-port.

Persoanlly I wouldnt buy a rebuilt motor on Ebay unless it was from a 'noted' rebuilder :)

Now with that said the only way id buy a motor such as that is 1) for parts or 2) REALLY cheap

Who the hell wants to get one, go through the trouble of putting it in and then BAM it wont run, or smoke or something. If it was like $100 Id take it, but thats it :)
