13B 6port to 4port convertion?

As you guys know my 13B SE 6port recently started smoking like a steam engine due to a coolant seal failure. Anyways many have suggested this to be the perfect time to port. I have a seized up 12A that was originally in the car before the 13B SE swap. Now I'm thinking of converting the 6port to a 4port using the 83 12A plates if deemed good once I open it up along with the 85 13B SE housings. Then maybe do a large streetport. What are some of the things I should take into consideration when mix matching the plates like this?

Thanks, Ed
By the way the coolant seal fix(CRC treatment) did didly squat for me!

About the only thing I can think of is you'll lose the injector bung in the centre housing. I assume you're going carb anyway so that won't make any difference.

my FB's motor is a GSL-SE block with 12-a plates.
my RX-3 is equipped with GSL-SE internals.

Both maxout streetports.

Any other thoughts about this?

Sound like a pretty good idea, Ive got a few motors laying around and was thinking of building one, sounds like a good idea for a cheap street port :bling:

someone here on the forum told me that 81-83 12a plates had more meat (space allowable) for porting than the other 12a plates.. but yes, 4 port is the WAAAAYY to go

Not if you can continue to use the center housing.

And if you get a 12A "Dellorto lower" manifold, you should even be able to continue using the -SE upper intake manifold. (The Dell' 13B upper mates to the GSL-SE lower, and there's an aftermarket 12A lower that uses the same Dell' upper...)

Might need a FC alternator to clear the manifold. Haven't done it so I can't say for sure.

Otherwise you'll need an intake manifold for a '74-78 13B.

Yeah this motor is going to be a carby for sure. I'll probably chuck the dell for a holley set up.

Thanks, Ed

And how aboot throwing the FI stuff this-a-way

13BTOY 06-30-04 10:08 AM

Feds, I have pretty much all the FI parts(upper intake) minus the AFM and injectors. The upper intake is complete with TB, all sensors, fuel rail, regulator and I'm pretty sure I also have the wiring harness intact as well for plug and play installation.

Sorry the dell and upper manifold doesnt go until I get a carb to replace it.

PM me with what you need. As I need to raise some funds for the build up.

Thanks, Ed
