12a turbo throttle body (efi) setups/ideas

looking for peoples setups on 12a efti conversions, my megasquirt is on its way so i thought id better get crackin making an intake for it, i have a mikuni carb and intake on it now, and i want to use that intake mani and 2 aftermarket or junkyard throttle bodies,
wanna see what you have done, no matter how crazy or cheesy the setup is,
also wondering about what size should the throttle bodies be

and if i use one throttle body, which i was also considering, what size/ what type of problems would i be facing
thanks, Paul.

yea and i know this is a crossthread (hope nobody minds)... to the engine management forum, but i figure other people may benafit from responces, and engine management doesnt get allot of traffic.

i dont get it am i the only one that wants to custom make stuff like this,
-how about this, attatching a 13b throttle body, , using an aluminum spacer, would pics of my current setup help or what, or does nobody have a ny suggestions,
-can i buy a throttle body setup to replace my mikuni/webber style) carb?
what have other people done to set up thier 12a intakes for FI ??
i know theres allot of people that are getting really high hp on thier 12a fi setups, and turbos so post your setups or tell me what youve done
-is there any way to attatch a 13b style complete lets say s4 or s5 intake or one from a gsl se?
-size of throttle body to use is the biggest concern of mine, my mikuni is 44 series does that mean millameters, i once heard someone say they had 2, 55 mm throttle bodies for thier setup does that sound right?

grantmac 07-07-05 11:59 PM

Between 45 and 50mm would be fine for having two of them. In your case I'd look for a set of snowmobile throttlebodies and adapt them, it's cheaper than buying webber throttlebodies (which are also available). Making the entire S4 or S5 intake fit would be waaay more work/complication.

okay thanks,
so nobody has tried using a single throtle body?
i think ill try snowmobile then.. unless theres any more suggestions

use one of these
http://www.twminduction.com/Throttle...dy2900-FR.html

it will bolt right to your mikuni manifold and it has 2 injector pockets... use 2 96 lb injectors and your done...

autopaul 07-09-05 01:11 AM

even for turbo applications? and for use with a megasquirt only use 2? i could weld 2 more bungs onto the manifold itself or make an aluminum spacer for it.
cool thanks "680hp12a"

680RWHP12A 07-09-05 01:23 AM

yes they work great for turbo applicatuons you just need a turbo plenum like this one...or something similar.......http://www.rotaryshack.com/Products/...p?intNotice=12

why do you want to use 4 injectors? how much power do you want to make ? what turbo are you going to use? how much boost?
2 96 lb injectors will make at least 200 hp .. 4 is better though

autopaul 07-09-05 01:29 AM

im going for an ultimate figure of 350hp just a nice round number, with perhaps an aftermarket s4 turbo still in the works dont get me wrong, just getting everything ready to set up the megasquirt na first, i want 4 injectors so i can get some used t11 injectors cheaper than buying new

autopaul 07-10-05 02:25 AM

heres the manifold i have, just thought id get some pics of my setup
680hp12a, what are you running as a manifold,, size of throttle bodies, and what not. just curious.

http://photobucket.com/albums/b345/a...t=DSC00873.jpg

yea ive been polishing it the last few days while pondering what setup to use, its gonna look good,

my dlifs, also if anyone is interested, ha going a bit picture crazy since i got my digital camera hooked up finally

http://photobucket.com/albums/b345/a...t=DSC00830.jpg

also wanna bring thread up again, i know theres people doing custom stuff just gotta find them, haha.
thanks guys, this is helping me decide what to finally use for my intake, how much is one of those 50 mm webber style bodys anyway, ??

680RWHP12A 07-10-05 09:15 PM

to get an idea of what you would need ,here is a pic of a 50mm ida style t-body that im putting together for a customers p-port

how much does that unit cost, looks like a really nice peice,
but the big thing is cost, and how can i get one in canada,
this is from your company 680hp12a? or just a unit you get from a supplier

saltyslug 07-10-05 09:53 PM

What single T/B would work best with the megasquirt (junkyard wise)? I know this will be mostly opinion, but what would work really well?

I had fabbed an IDF/DRLA mani and got a TB from ebay.. Just about any TB size will work, as long as it is not ridiculously huge. You can tune out problems like boggage you'd have with the same size carb setup but still get the response of a smaller carb. If you have megasquirt and are using a larger TB(like a weber style 50mm, for example), you will probably need 'faster' accel enrichment values if you have a larger TB compared to the smaller stocker on a SE.. Something to look out for if you run into stalls on full throttle.
I dunno about using 96# injectors on a stock port. Seems like overkill to me, and idle tuning could get difficult, also. Although, I use 42# and those are about the limit for a stock 12a as I understand it, so something bigger might not be a bad idea. Also be sure to get the right type injectors to fit your rail.
I would highly recommend a 4 injector bung TB, otherwise you will need those really large injectors or fab additional bungs to the manifold, if you go with a ported motor or turbo.

I think using FC injectors from a NA 13b would be ideal. They are cheap and plentiful.. I was looking at a holley TB setup that was cheap, and I believe these injectors could be used with the rail. It was 4 bung and also had IAC and TPS come with, and was much cheaper than the weber DCOE/IDA 4 bung TBs that tweakit had.

I really like my setup, the car is faster than with my stock nikki. A FI conversion is costly, but worth it..

BTW, here's some pics of my 12a setup. good luck with yours!

Looks a lot like a TWM 3000 to me, with their 6AN fuel rail. Those run what, around $350 for the body and about $100 for the rails?

you havnt bought anything from gary in a while... you better get current pricing..:)
plus remember the velocity stacks are sold sepratly....
nice product though

autopaul 07-11-05 12:16 AM

will the velocity stacks off my mikuni bolt right on?
also can i get them without the fuel rail, i can make my own, and thatd cut down cost allot it seems,

no, your mikuni stacks wont fit and yes you can get some blank fuel rail bar stock and make your own rails if you want..

autopaul 07-11-05 12:42 AM

for junkyard setups, i was thinking of cleaning up a set of 2 50 mm holley throttle bodies that i have off a turbo dodge car, and linking them, id have to make a custom adaptor , and throttle linkage, though, so im still inbetween emptying my pocket book or doing somethign that wont look nearly as good, and takes extra work.

autopaul 07-11-05 12:44 AM

680hp12a do you have pics of your setup or can you tell us what style of manifold you have, i noticed it was a log style manifold, but i cant tell if you had one or two throttle bodies or what, just wondering, im really curious what type of intake makes 680whp!! thanks again

jayroc 07-11-05 05:13 PM

I think those TWM TBs are $420 and fuel rails are $160, the tweakit ones go for about the same, $600. Not AWFUL, but too expensive for me. Really nice setups, though.
If I had the project to do again I would go with a holley style TB from auto-nomics. I emailed the guy a few times and he seems like a good person to do business with. The whole setup would cost $400 which includes IAC and TPS. All you need is the air cleaner assembly which can be had virutally anywhere.

I do like the sound of the dual throat throttle body, however... :) vrooom
