12a turbo questions
 
Ok I have been outta the rx7 game for a while and went to building Honda's (yea yea) but I want to get back in to the rx7 game cause it is my favorite motor or motors...well I have searched for hours and still unsure bout somethings....which is better for a turbo setup on the 12a drawback or blowthrough? Next I know I want to go bridgeported and something like a 48ida...also with this will or can I use a fuel management system...one more thing is there turbo kits that can be bought or do I just piece them together and fab the innercooler piping...

For just 250whp I don't think a bridgeport is what you want. A streetport will just about any turbo will get you there. A BNR upgraded TII turbo and a streetport will get you 250-350, same port with a bigger turbo can get closer to 500 or more. All the porting terms are just general shapes, the actual size of the port can be VERY different between two "streetports"

Blowthrough is much better than drawthrough, use fuel injection if you can afford it.

There are some old kits floating around, but most likely you'll need to piece together your own kit.

Ok...now that u mention it me and my building buddy was looking to get a big street port...and he did mention going fuel injected....but how do we go about the conversion...and what's the estimate price u think on making it fuel injected...

From reading the 12a-t motors really don't see much gain from boosting...or am I misunderstanding something...

UGHHHH! This question must come up 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times a day. Look in the archives, there is a thread by Manny (MoreMazda) that walks you through step by step of setting up a blowthrough set-up on a 12a. I can tell from your original post that you deffinitely have NOT searched. Because if you had all of these rudimentary questions would have already been answered. Hell I just posted in another thread a week ago why a street driven turbo car won't benefit from a bridgeport.

Don't take this the wrong way, but this is coming from a guy that is smack dab in the middle of a 12a blowthrough conversion. There is WAY MORE that enough information already posted to get you started, and just to put it in perspective for you; I've been planning and educating myself about this project for the last 3 years. You need to have a good solid understanding of what you're doing before you ever start tearing anything apart. Learn how to rebuild your motor, learn how to do your own porting, learn to tune a carb because all of these are necessary components to a well running turbo motor.

Again, nothing personal, but every joker comes on this board and thinks they can turbo there 12a for $500 and make 250-300 hp. Then, undoubtedly, they ask the same questions....... "How do I turbo my 12a?" "How do I fuel inject my carb?" "What kinda PCM do I need to get for my Weber carb?"

As you can understand it gets a little tiring. Here's the straight truth on a 12a turbo set-up.

1. Whatever you think it's going to cost... take that magic number in your head and TRIPLE it. Then you'll be close.
2. Take the time you think it's going to take to complete the project and DOUBLE it.
3. Finally, when you think you'v read everything there is to turboing your 12a, and you feel confident you know everything...... read everything again.

Ok.... I'm getting of my soapbox now. Carry on...

Ok I am very knowledgeable about building turbo cars...and this is not my first rx7 build either so I know it's not gonna cost 500 to turbo...my thing is I wanna make enough power to have an 11-10sec 7....so I only ask the questions to get a direct answer instead of going through hours of threads to find the answer...and as long as it took u to write that message u coulda been a nice dude and put a couple links to answer my questions...

The motor pinning and low compression rotors aren't cheap. I think if you plan on running over 300hp you need studs or pins, I think people have made closer to 400 without them, but that's pushing it and asking for cracked plates. Pinning every tesnion rod hole isn't necessary, 5 is good, I've heard 2-3 is all you really need.

For 250rwhp you don't need them, but if you want to run 10-11's 250hp won't get you there without serious weight reduction.

That rite there alone is about 7500 worth of build...so like I said I am no rookie in the turbo game period...it's all pretty much the same concept wit a tweak here and there...all I was lookin for was a direct answer not to be told to search...all the shit talkin you guys are doing coulda been time used to either help me wit some links or answered the questions....

Must of the folks hear prefer the search option, I can apprecaite there is tons of info to digest and sometimes it seems like the info conflicts from one thread to another and kind of generating more questions then you started with. But bottom line either your going to go down a proven path (using someone elses setup) or starting from scratch. Me personally I'd prefer dialog to help me understand something if I have a question.

Do you attend any local rotary meets? Where else would you find a guy/gal more willing to talk about their setup ;)

To get insulted and start shooting stuff back will most likely result in not getting any answers, granted costs of a project will never be the same for reasons such as what someone can do themselves versus paying someone else and where they may be able to source needed parts

Mind you I am not "one of the guys" just expressing my point of view. My money is on it will get the same response as when talk to the kids and wife lol

No I haven't attended any meets I just moved back to cali from indiana from school...so no I haven't...and yea I'm taking it personal because to talk shit when I'm asking a question is unneccessary...simply coulda been try to search....not we don't build 400 eBay turbo cars...that's disrespecting me and building...
