12a turbo build need advice
 

Guys I got jeff20b prepping my nikki for boost I need all info on boost applications and tips are greatly appreciated Jeff has alot of info but more info would never hurt heres the car where building

I did my turbo build in steps. I was then able to keep the car running and operating the whole time.

The modified Nikki Carb runs good even in NA. The one I modified did. It only took a little jet changes to richen it up for boost. So you'll be able to install Jeff20b's Carb and enjoy some of its benefits now.

I then upgraded the ignition system. This is optional because others have done turbos with a stock ignition system. I did GM ignitors and Ford TFI coils. But there are many other ways to beef up the ignition system. Just search "Tfidfis" or "DLIFIS" and you will find results. This helped just a little bit NA before I turboed it. I only "locked" the timing of the distributor after I put the turbo on by removing the springs for the weights.

The Clutch got replaced out of necessity when the pilot bearing went bad. I upgraded to a Spec Stage 2 clutch.

I then upgraded the oil cooler to a front mount style. Again this is optional and debated a lot if it is necessary. All i know is I now have more cooling capacity than before.

I upgraded the radiator to a large aluminum one and installed an electric fan. Again optional. In hindsight, I probably didn't need to do this as I don't live in a very hot climate. But again, I increased my cooling capacity.

I then did the fuel system upgrade to a MSD 2225 Fuel Pump and MSD 29387 Fuel Pressure Regulator per Jeff20b's suggestions. Installing these didn't improve anything when running without the turbo that is why i performed this upgrade last.

Finally, a friend and I made a turbo manifold and a downpipe and we installed the rest of the turbo stuff minus an intercooler. I installed the turbo feed, drilled and tapped for a drain in the front cover, installed the manifold, turbo, and downpipe, and connected the turbo air outlet to the carb with a carb hat. This was the most involved process of all.

Later I installed an intercooler and increased the boost by a few more PSI.

I then made a custom 3" exhaust and that made noticeable gains in boost response and in overall power over the stock style Racing Beat exhaust.

In the process of doing the install in stages it allowed me to work out the bugs with each system before working on the next.
