12a rebuild?

i briefly searched for a 12a rebuild write up, but didn't find one. would anyone direct me to a write up that would instruct me step by step on how to do it, or write one if there isnt one? i would GREATLY appreciate it. recently bought an 83 gsl and came to find one apex seal on the 2nd rotor was blown. :[ i think i might try to rebuild it myself. i need to know what to get, what kind of tools ill need, what it might cost, and any tips and pointers that might help me along the way. ive never done this before. some ideas on what i need to fix with the rebuild - disappearing coolant and coolant leaking on to the bottom plate of the carb, blow apex seal on second rotor, leaking oil on the drivers side 12a part (leak of death). if anyone can help me, id be very happy. im also 10 minutes outside of atlanta if anyone is willing to help me.

i would recommend, that is if you really wanna learn yourself, to find some of the local guys, maybe one of them can lend you a hand and teach you, it's probably better than having a how-to guide because you might mess up, check out the OGTA thread if you haven't :https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...75955&page=210

maybe some of those guys will be willing to help

Download a copy of the FSM, 85 is the best version. DL the 83 version too for any minor differences. Then purchase a rebuild video. I have the Rotary Aviation one, but there are several others availible, Atkins, DIY-RE, etc.

While at "Foxed.ca", also snag a copy of "How to Modify Your RX-7;" the whole book is worth reading, but the "Blueprinting and Assembly" section is a great help as a contrasting view to the FSM. It makes clear some things the FSM leaves murky, and offers some decent advice about performance mods of varying difficulty that the FSM does not cover.

I use both together; it's like getting good advice from two experts, instead of only one.

thanks guys. i really appreciate it.

what am i should i look for when looking for rebuild kits? i know i need apex seals. but i also need to fix a coolant leak near the carb, and an oil leak by the 12a emblem.

i haven't bought rebuild kits yet, but they come separate as far as i know, hard seals and soft seals, your soft seals is your gaskets and o-rings (this should take care of the coolant/oil leaks), and hard seals is corner seals apex, and all that good stuff.

Best bet is to either buy the master kit from www.atkinsrotary.com or tear the motor down and just replace the soft seals and any other seals you just need. That would be the economical way to go about it.
