So i just recently bought a 80 rx7 and its got just over 100k and i'm looking cheap ways of decarbonization. And also any begineer tips for atarting to tune it A bit. I apreciate the help!

I used seafoam, and it is suppose to help harden the apex seals. It made my car run smoother.

Welcome! You'll find alot of great info in the FAQ's and Archives. Seafoam is your best friend with decarbonizing. Let the tank get to about 1/4 to 1/8 and put a can in and just run the piss out of it. For tuning, I'd turn the idle mixture screw all the way in lean(but don't tighten as it can damage the needle) and give it 3 180 degree turns outward and that will be a very good starting point with mixture, then you just need to adjust your idle screw to 750rpms. There are a number of different ways of going about this The cheapest would be the use of water. But i dont remeber the process so the next easiest would be to get your self a can of Seafoam($5) You can get it at Atozone and Walmart IIRC.

Run your tank down to about an 1/8th of a tank, Then add the whole bottle to your gas tank, wait maybe 15 minutes for it to mix in with the gas. Then drive it like you stole it. Decarbinization done. You might as well get a new fuel filter (about $5) while your at the store.

Now go out and have fun, while obeying the posted speed limit of course. :bigthumb:

Lol, hardly any need for me to tell people about the Seafoam any more! :) Just follow the instructions provided and you will be all set. Seafoam does not "harden" the apex seals though, it just cleans all of the carbon out of them so that they can move freely again.

Definitely change the fuel filter, this is a weak point on these cars. Other than that, just plugs/cap/rotor. Good luck, and welcome to the forum. :)

Do not recommend adjusting the idle mixture. The only time the idle mixture screw comes into play is if someone before you was tampering with it or you had removed it for some reason during a rebuild attemp.

It does not get out of adjustment and if tampered with will cause you more grief.

Justin, you cannot harden the apex seals, there main component is steel.

Firebird, you do not mess with the carb settings until it's known they are off in the 1st place and it's 3 full turn from closed for a baseline setting. Not 3 1/2 turns.
