12A oil leaks coming from where and what?
 

i have an 83 rx7 with the original 12A in it. i have a couple oil leaks that i'm not sure what parts they are coming from. one leaks is coming from the front part of the engine. there is what looks like a mini throttle body just under the fan pully. it has 2 small hoses that run to it. there is a good amount of oil hanging off of that. so, what is it and what can i do about the leaking?

the second one. is coming from the drivers side of the engine. there are a couple of 1-2 inch rubber hoses that all connect in one spot and that whole side of the engine from that spot back and half of the side of the tranny is covered with oil. what is that mess of hoses and what can i do to fix the leaking. any help would be great, i'm getting tired of seeing oil spots on my pavement and pouring oil in between oil changes. thanks.

First one is your OMP. Its purpose is to pump crankcase oil into the combustion chambers to keep the seals lubed up. If it is leaking down the hoses then check the hoses for cracks, typically they are old and brittle by now. You have 2 options, you can replace the hoses (windshield hose, or whatever you can find like it) or take off the OMP and block off where it was at. If you do the latter, you will need to premix oil in your gas everytime you fill up. This is what I and many other people do.

As for the second one sounds like a beehive issue, if they had them in 83 or not. Does your filter stand on a finned mount or not?

Yes, it appears you would have a beehive oil cooler. Generally they go for pretty cheap since everyone prefers to go FMOC instead (Front Mount Oil Cooler). Check the For Sale section and post an ad.

still have an oil leak
 

ok well i replaced the 2 rubber lines and i still have an oil leak that is dripping onto the exhaust manifold. after i drive the car for a while and then stop, the smoke starts rolling off. i can't see where it's coming from. what seal is there around the exhaust manifold and the heatshield?

the exaust is on the pasenger side not the drivers side did you replace the O rings

all i did was replace the 2 rubber lines b/c i thought they were leaking and that was an easy and cheap fix. somehow oil is still getting on the exhaust and heat shield but i don't where it's leaking from.

Are you sure it is oil and not coolant? Coolant leak on exhaust manifold is common., oil not near as much so.

i'm positive it's oil. from the exhaust back to the back of the tranny has a coating of oil on it.

You need to trace the OMP lines all the way from the pump near the pulley to the base of the carburetor. They snake their way through a lot of stuff and it is hard to see them unless you remove some hardware. Most likely the old nylon lines are broken allowing oil to spread on and drip off the heat shield.
For the leak on the drivers side it is most likely the O rings on the beehive or filter pedestal. Check the oil lines very carefully as well. If it tuns out to be a cracked beehive pm me as I have a good one FS.
