12a>GSL-SE brake conversion
I seem to have come across a thread or two where people believe the spindles on all 84-85 rx7's are the same. This has me curious as I have in my possession a set of spindles off of an 84 GSL and would like to put GSL-SE brakes on. Would this be a straight direct swap if I just went to rockauto and bought all of the wheel bearings, brake rotors, and brake calipers?
On another note, what other parts might I need to complete this conversion? Would I need hoses? or would I need to change the Master cylinder? |
well, the 84-85 spindles are the same, but the wheel bolt pattern is different. So you would need the GSL-SE rear end. There is a kit on eBay that adapts second gen brakes but that requires the same front spindles and a 84/85 LSD rear end.
I would replace the hoses and yes, the master cylinder should match your system. (disc vs drum) |
Yes, I know about the rear end. The car came with wheel adapters on the rear so I am currently planning on running those for street driving. I trust the wheel adapters for the most part. They seem to be good or decent quality.
Another question. Looking on autozone, it appears the brake calipers on the GSL-SE are the same as some of the FC brake calipers. So what about the bracket? It appears to be a different bracket than the FC. Does it use the same caliper bracket as a 12a model? meaning all I would need is the caliper? |
