12a engines
Hello, I'm sticking with my 12a and am going to get a tune for the carb, but, in the meantime, I found, apparently they have in stock, 12a rebuilt engines with potential upgrades and port options. Rx7 World offers a rebuilt 12a with a few upgrades for about $2600. Does anyone have experience with the site? I called and left a message, but I am unable to receive calls and told them to leave me an email. Would you recommend just buying one for the low price and when mine goes out, I'll have a spare? Or at that point, hopefully 2-3 years from now, just upgrade to a 13b?

I pretty sure that they don't stock 12a units. you would have to send your core to be rebuilt if it is possible to rebuild. the 12a rotor housing chrome flake bad. I would say to drive the car and enjoy it and when/if the motor blows to send it to be rebuilt.

Why does everyone think these engines dont last anyway? If you maintain the oil they should
last longer than a boinger. I guess the turbo hacker crowd blowing up engines every other month due to bad tunes or poor setup has ingrained every rotary wannabe with the idea that these engines need to be rebuilt constantly. You 12A will probably last a long time as long as it was maintain properly and run to redline occasionally. The oil needs to stay at a reasonable level and it needs to be change every 3 or 4K miles so its fresh. Or you need to premix so the engine has oil in its combustion. |
I do premix and check the oil often, however, I'm confused on whether the pump is actually cycling oil though into the intake or not.... The spring has the rod sitting in the down position.

I think the main concern for many people is that 12a rotor housings are no longer available new. I question how big of a problem this is, wasn't there probably a million or more 12a cars produced? I personally have no interest in ever putting a 13b into my car.
