12a to 13bt Adapter Manifold
To get my 2nd gen manifold mounted I am going to use the 2 RB exhaust flanges and get a pipe welded between them to make it an adpater.
I was just wondering what type of pipe I should be using, and the length of the pipe between the two flanges. I am going to be using the stock carb. |
well its a good idea..the reason i know this is its been done :) you also have to cut your pipes at a little bit of a angle to move the turbo to the front more 2 1/4 pipe is what you need to use i beleave...(we are talking about the 13b turbo manifold on a 12a right?).... do a search on it you should find the thread it was a few months back :) good luck

p.s.... get 1 13b and 1 12a flange :) you will also need to order 1 gasket for each
|
yeah, I was gonan use a 12a and 13b flange and a gasket for each. I need to make it 2 and a 1/4 inches angled forward?
|
that is right :) there is a wright up about it i dont remember who did it tho :( i will try to find it for you

2-1/4" pipe is too big, since the exhaust ports, with sleeves are only 1-1/2" on a 12A. Buy a couple of feet of schedule 80/120 mild steel pipe with an 1-1/2" id. The id of the TII exhaust mani is 1-3/4" By using the 1-1/2" id bridge pipe you will keep the exhaust velocities up. The turbo does not need to be moved forward unless you want too. You need to clear the carb as much as possible and keep the 2 pipe lengths equal.
If you were to go with 2-1/4" diameter pipe, you would lose exhaust flow due to it's size and create turbulence when it narrows down for the 13B flange. 2-1/2 to 2-3/4" pipe would be a good size for the downpipe coming off the turbo. PaTrick, if you are going to post bad advice, at least spell check. :) |

here is the link to the how to click me i will tell you how to build this
also he used 2.25 or 2 1/4 piping :) cut at an angle to get the turbo away from the idler arm woot i might not type to well but i remember cars good cheers PaTricK :icon_tup: |
Nice job on the search, forgot I posted in that thread. Still need to keep the runners about the same cross-sectional diameter as the exhaust ports to maintain the highest possible velocity, without causing a restriction. Turbo will spool quicker.
