12A or 13B Engine
Well,
I've come to the startling conclusion that the smoke has to be a coolant issue and that it's burning it off during start up which is why it runs fine AFTER its been revved a few times (and doesnt smoke anymore afterwards)...yes the smoke is white...yes it makes a MMO Treatment Smoke for like 15 Seconds and then stops. So, I guess I'm stuck with two choices, take all the 13B stuff out and put the 12A engine in (even though I have no idea how to do this, instructions must be somewhere). Actually three choices, Second choice, rebuild the 13B and drive my Thunderbird to work everyday until I get the money, the Thunderbird only has 2nd and 3rd gear because I've got to do something to the transmission that I just havent had time for. Sell the RX7(s) - the second rx7 has major electrical problems...I love my little car and watch DirectFreaks video every night dreaming of the day I get a good job and can afford to rebuild an engine in one or two weeks. God damn coolant seals... :( Is anyone selling a 13B block on the side that I could buy & build up until my car finally just falls apart? - Tech |
i would try to find a used 13b block way more things you can do to it to increase power than a 12a w/o porting at least from what i gather whatever you do good luck!

why would you want to put a 12A in a SE? i don't think its even possible considering its got the SE subframe...

Happens from time to time if it does it only when its really hot out side like you drive to work then after it sit's and you come out to start it smokes really bad then its the intake seals. if it smokes really bad everytime you start the car then its the water jacket seals.

It only happens every once in a while, like today when I went to start it up in the morning it poured out and that was at about it (15 seconds maybe - 7:30 AM) and then when I went to start it up at work (11:40 AM) no smoke what so ever so I guess it's the ring like you're talking about. How hard is it to change these? Would I be better off paying someone else? If I have to take the intake manifold off then I'll go ahead and clean the 5th & 6th ports while it’s off because I think it's sticking or not working. - Tech |
are you not just burning off extra gas that is at the bottom of the manifold? if it smokes white smoke for 15 seconds and then it runs fine. later, after bringing it up to opperating temp, you shut it off it doesnt do it anymore, then you try to start it, and it starts fine. that just sounds like a cold start with a little extra gas thats burning off. ive owned a couple first gens and they have all done this. it comes with the territory of a 20+ year old car. im not there so i cant take in all the problems and diaognos but my best educated guess would say that your fine, dont worry your engines fine, for godssake dont rebuild it at the drop of a hat. correct me if im wrong. but the only thing i think you should do is buy some new injectors to fix that problem. oh and it would be completelly senseless to do a 13b to 12a swap.

I don't think so because I took off the hose that everyone told me to take off and started it up and it still smoked. Come to think about it, it did start doing it when I poured some fuel injector cleaner in there (by valvoline)...I'm starting to think valvolines products aren’t as great as I thought. - Tech |
