**Survey** Who is the manufacturer of your glass moon roof??

I have noticed a couple different manufacturers of the glass sunroofs. If you look close ( as with the windshield) you can see a printing in the glass of the manufacturer. What company is on your glass?? The two I looked at were: (1) PPG , a common glass company , and, (2) Saratoga Glass Clifton Park, NY. Does anyone have a "mazda" imprint on the glass moonroof?... Just interested in what is out there.. I would love to hear what you have. Thanks....cjf

Hmmm...My cars under a cover right now, will have to look later. Odd you posted this however. I just recently got my 7 together and had to get another moonroof off of Ebay (broke the other one). I've had it for some time, definitely glass. What I noticed was I just washed the car and discovered the middle front of the thing is bowed. Doesn't touch the weatherstrip (new) and therefore leaks. Had to have been made this way, like I said, it's glass and really hard to deform. A good reason to sell it I guess.

hey jerij, glass does not warp as far as I know. Now if you had the plex-i-glass, yes,....glass no . Why is it "odd" I posted this? It is odd you say it is odd...(haha)..have a good one. ...cjf...ps: let me know who made your glass!! thanks...

Mine says 'PPG', on tempered glass it's called an 'acid etch'.

Mine's says SKYPORT, and if anyone knows how to get parts for this brand, I need to replace almost everything but the glass.

I've got two. Both are PPG.

I do believe Pacific Ground Effects in Huntington Beach, CA made those glass roofs, and they used PPG glass with a slight tint.

They're not made anymore and are available 2nd hand only. $100-150 typical.

To answer tha question if glass ' warps' yes it does.
You see glass is a fluid. even tempered glass, with the properties of a solid. all glass right now is moving. even
the tv,windows, computer monitors, etc. under the right conditions the glass can 'warp' or slump. i work with glass. trippy huh ??

Heath 11-12-02 01:25 PM

Yep, its a fluid alright. It just takes a very long time to visibly look deformed. Look at the windows of really old houses.

cjf 11-12-02 02:57 PM

I guess I stand corrected on glass warpage..I guess it does warp...hummmm ,,,,I could see old time glass warping but tempered glass that is only 20 yrs old?? ...cjf

MarkPerez 11-12-02 08:11 PM

Any glass. and thats right.old houses you can see the glass ripple's. what you can't see is how gravity makes it
thicker at the bottom as it settles. old mirrors ripple from age. and thats what make them sought after. tempered glass is just glass that is cooled much slower
it's called aneeling. it makes it harder. but like steel. the harder.the more brittle it becomes.

hummm, you obviously know your "glass"...more power to ya....cjf
