Have you done anything to the exhaust?

(I'll take it off your hands for free, you can keep the $500. :D)

for 500 you could get one of carls great carbs and a header. probably electric fan too.
That's probably what I would do.
You could probably also measure the distance between your new header and the downpipe right after the cat and have a muffler shop make a pipe very cheap, that is if emissions aren't an issue.

Don't expect miracles, but that would be a great start.

Ludicrous 01-26-04 06:14 PM

I'd go with exhaust - header, presilencer (I have one I'd sell ya), muffler if you need it.

Glazedham42 01-26-04 06:45 PM

Ok, I guess I'll chip in. :D Exhaust seems to be the first choice for Rotary owners, seeing as thats where some major HP is locked away. Check out racing beat, others swear by mindtrain, but they are a bit harder to find information about.

Electric fans are good. You can get the black magic aftermarket fan, or take a trip to the salvage yard and find a good taurus or fiero fan. There is a little controversy over these fans 'cause some people say it is a no-no to buy a $10 fan for your rotary. It just seems smart to me to save a little $$$.

Carl and Sterling make some cool carbs. The Sterling carb is $300 and the quality is unmatched. Put on a new fuel pump and a pressure regulator and you can have some real fun.

A front strut tower bar would also make a nice addition if you are looking to tighten up the front end. These are just a few of the small things I can say I've done to my Rex so far. The possibilities are really endless.

For $500 though, I'd say you could get a nice RB used exhaust, and probably finish ALL of the nearly free HP upgrades, i.e. remove emissions, remove AC, remove air pump, hot and cold start assists, chop up your air cleaner a little, put on a e-fan. After that you might even have some left over. Just be a smart shopper and look around. You can get some good deals being patient, and lots of people have come up with some killer budget mods.... Good Luck!

where do you get the carbs at

jorx81@aol.com 01-26-04 07:23 PM

the strut tower bar is the very last thing you need to buy.

slowautoxr 01-26-04 09:20 PM

Get yourself a nice header/exhaust. Best bang for the buck.

BIG J MIXALOT 01-26-04 09:22 PM

i got one already

BIG J MIXALOT 01-26-04 09:36 PM

where do you get the carbs at??????????????????????????????

Kill No Cone 01-26-04 09:56 PM

Mix,
I think the first thing to do is figure out what you want from the car. What is more important to you, to go fast or turn well?

If getting going is the most important thing than yes go with exhaust and induction. If you want to turn how about tires and wheels? How about going to a Novice Driving School in Bremerton.

I still think the first step is to determine the direction before you start spending.

MosesX605 01-26-04 10:35 PM

You could get a set of RB springs and Tokiko Blue shocks/struts. That would be a really good street setup, handling wise.

BIG J MIXALOT 01-26-04 11:09 PM

i got nice wheels and it turns great heres what it looks like

KehoeAutomotive 01-26-04 11:22 PM

You ahould buy a 5 year CD and invest the 500$. That way you would have pleanty of time to think about what you want AND you'll have more money to spend on it when the CD matures!!!
