The wrecked 26k mile 84 GSL
 

So i scored this car from a local guy that bought it 5 years ago from the original owner. A brake line failed right after he bought it and the brakes went out while driving. The damage is pretty severe. I thought some of you would appreciate the interior pictures. The details on some of these pieces are better than i have ever seen - for example, the window switches, the radio. Many of these parts will be going into my 84 GSL-SE, the rest will probably be getting put on ebay. Enjoy the Pictures.

I would fix the car.

me too. new fender from Mazda is $100... FA01-52-211D

The entire apron needs to be replaced, both fenders, headlight bucket and cover, hood, front bumper and valence, and core support is pushed back about 4 inches. I have given careful consideration to fixing it but for me, that is not the best option.

A used non-running RX-7 can be had for $500 with all the part to fix it. Hell, that car is worth $7000 - $8000 fixed. Please reconsider or resell it to someone that will restore it. I'd be willing to but it.

Also no title. The value wouldn't be that high with the wreck in the car's history also. Still running possible scenarios through my head, but will probably still part out.

No title can be a problem. There can be ways of getting one.

That's a fantastic score! I would debate long and hard on a 5spd swap and a repair only given the low miles. With that said, you could buy a clean shell and give it a repaint and swap EVERYTHING over and it would be a 26k mile car with a few bits give or take. I think I'd go that route. Title, straight shell, and one ultra clean FB. I really enjoyed the pictures. Great score!

Also wanted to add, I see you have three of the original tires on the car. Do you have the 4th? When Stu see this and these tires, he will no doubt lust over them, lol.

For what its worth, my vote is to save it. That damage isn't insurmountable. Amazing how clean the whole thing is inside. It would look 500% better just with the hood, fender, headlight bucket and front valence removed. Do that and then look at it again and ask yourself if its worth saving.

For all those saying "save it" I say NO TITLE & AUTO. Not worth saving IMO

Great to see such a low mileage example and a pity if it were to perish.

That said, despite the low kilometres and great condition of the interior generally, it is interesting to see all the usual places just as worn as all the other high mileage cars, eg faded and warped boot trim, paint faded from windscreen moulding (and no doubt brought back to bare stainless rather than resprayed). Some parts of these cars were just never going to last long.

That belongs in a museum as a reference piece.

That is absolutely amazing and also the strangest combination of options. Has 84-85 gsl-se (or 82-83 gt-x) suspension, 81-83 dash, 84-85 gs seats plus back seats, but it appears to be a standard 4 port 12a as opposed to the 6 port I was expecting. A very beautiful but very strange car. Thanks for sharing.

^^^ That market never got the SE,just pieces of it. No 13B,no FI...

yep it must be strange for North American 1st gen enthusiasts but normal for me!. All RHD models including JDM stuck with your 81-83 style dash. Australian, NZ and UK models were quite similar as you'd expect. All got the 4 port 12A only. All got the gslse suspension and brakes. Licence plate is between the taillights too so no garnish with a straighr rear bumper (no cutout). Australian series 3 even got the same EFR sound system as the 83 GSL.

UK was unique again in that it took a few styling aspects from the JDM models that Aus didn't: square side mirrors, OEM rear fog light and 1 piece rubber spoiler (Aus got this on base model only). For some reason the UK has FC style side indicators near the rx7 emblem instead of on the mouldings in front of the front wheel. I've only seen this on UK cars. May have been on continental European cars too. UK also used the FB prefix whereas Japan and Oz stuck with SA22C throughout. So i hate when FB is used to designate the 81-85 body style.

There was so much variety in the 1st gen!

Wondering what ever happened with this car.
